Default MDS & "Mobile Browser"

Please Login to Remove!

Using BOLD. I searched but didn't find what I was looking for. Nothing found on BB support either.

MDS is turned on, with http authentication, and I'm trying to access an internal SharePoint site that also has a mobile view.

Supposedly, SP will recognize the browser as a mobile and use the mobile view, but i'm seeing the "normal" page.

This also is happening with another intranet site...it's not "seeing" the browser as a mobile browser. I've switched the MDS browser between BB and Internet with no effect.

QUESTION: Does "proxying" thru MDS affect what the application/webserver sees as the type of browser?

Just curious.

Thanks.

Interesting.
This may be totally unrelated, but I had a similar issue with OMA and Sharepoint on Windows SBS/Exchange 2003 w/SP a few days ago for a client.

I don't exactly know what fixed it. I made huge changes in IIS as well as reinstalling the mobile access tools from the Windows CD. After spending 9 hours of pulling hair out, i gave connectivity one more try, it worked....I left...I went to bed. Still working.

I know this doesn't help. If I had to guess my problems were in IIS.

Well, more symptoms.

Prior to turning on http authentication, the "other" application would complain whenever i tried to connect, because it detected a mobile browser and we didn't purchase the mobile view facility of the product. Once i turned on http authentication on the mds setup, this applicaition now happily shows me the "normal" login screen...apparently validating that it "sees" a normal browser trying to connect.

It appears that enabling the http authentication feature caused this. I was just hoping for a little more insight.

Oh yea, I could never see the sharepoint mobile view before this because without http authentication, that site wouldn't allow me to access it.

Thanks.

One final note:

Called RIM support, no real help. Tried changing "emulation" on the handheld, no real effect.

Looking at the W3 logs on the SP server, I see the following:
Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+6.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+SV1;+.N ET+CLR+2.0.50727

(looks like IE6 to me...)

For comparison, here's what IE7 (my desktop) when I browse to the SP site:
Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.0;+SLCC1;+ .NET+CLR+2.0.50727

Now...the BES server has IE6 installed...Coincidence?

I'm giving up. If I point to the actual mobile URL, it works, I just wanted to know if there was a way to contol it.
