The sooner the better for me...EDGE or not. My Pearl's LCD is shot and I have been waiting much longer than desired for the replacement LCD I ordered to hold me over for the new 89xx...
An ATT 8900 with 2g Edge would fly. Many can't get 3g (me) and even then a lot of them won't notice the difference. If they priced it a little less than the Bold I think they'd get people to buy it. Let's face it, some just can't handle the Bold's "deck of cards" profile (me).
Actually the 8900 and there kickstart have been announced as there last 2G capable phones ever. So yea EDGE is on its death bed! Besides they have to when LTE comes in 2010-11 3G will be the fall back. Especially since VZW is rolling LTE this year now

I agree, EDGE is not going anywhere for the next couple of years! I know I do not stand alone when I say at&t's 3G is pure garbage as of late! Dropped calls, resets, etc! I'll be all to happy to rock an 8900 with EDGE over my BOLD right now, at least until at&t gets there act together with there so called more bars in more places nonsense!
hmmm thats weird i never dropped my att signal and now since I went back comparable to my storm always have more bars in more places...ps the 3G was in and out because of the 2G fade out that is going on and the 3.5 G increase

ATT has a lot of 3g work to do in a lot of places, that's for sure. Bold people know the drill and they wish they could switch to EDGE when they want with the ATT 9000 (they can't, only Rogers 9000s can). Since the average phone life is about 2 years and the 3.5g won't be out for over 2 the 8900 is safe I'd say. When I was looking at Bolds there was no way I was gonna buy an ATT model. Their EDGE network is fine, and the reason they're ditching it isn't because it isn't fast, it's because it must be too costly to expand/maintain (that's my guess). As I've said before in many places it's as fast as 3g at least for BB phones.
