Blackberry curve 8900 problem
Please Login to Remove!
Hi, I just bought the new curve 8900 a week ago and its battery doesn't last very long. (only lasts about 22 hours in "standby mode") Should I return my phone and replace it with a new one? Oh and 3 days ago, I turned off my phone 'cause I only had 3 bars left(50%), the next morning when I turned on my phone, it only had 2 bars left(about 30%). I turned off my phone again and turned it back on after 2 hours and the battery was low batt!! (10%) Losing power when it's fully off? weird, just weird. So, I did a little experiment, I fully charged my phone last night (finished charging at 8pm), and put it in standby mode all day, and guess how much bars are left now? 2 1/2 bars and it's only 10pm right now! Is there a way to fix this? or just return this phone and get a new one?

Upgrade to 4.6.1.133, it's much better on battery life. Also there are some posts saying that the OEM pouch is depressing keys and also draining the battery.

Try using your phone without the pouch. You will see a significant change in your battery life.

Perhaps not.. RIM is giving other sister companies an opportunity to make some money.

I am wondering about this I have exactly the same problem and upgraded to 4.6.1.133 a couple of days ago, although this seems to be better it doesn't last anywhere near my other BlackBerrys, any idea/suggestions?
p.s I do use the pouch, but even when left in stand by mode during the night it is completely drained by the morning, weird, eh

well that's what they said about the .133 and although it does seem slightly better I left my BB in bedside mode all night but woke up to a battery in the red this morning, I've come from a pearl to a flip and never had this problem before pretty disappointing...

I upgraded my curve 8900 to its latest version when I first got it. I never used the pouch that came with it because it's too tight. It's hard to pull the curve out of the pouch lol.

My OEM pouch is fine. I ordered another one from RIM, paid $30 plus shipping (indigo blue with the square metal logo on it) thinking it would be better and that's way too tight (sent back). My battery lasts 2 full days, I'm not a heavy user. I think the battery is fine. I haven't changed the OS either. I'm of the opinion that the OS has virtually nothing to do with battery life. I think that quickly draining batterys have some radio running in the background and that updating the OS fixes that. Just my .02.

I had been using the plain pouch that came with the 8900 and experienced no problems. I just got a new leather pouch a few days ago and now I seem to be experiencing the battery problems discussed here so I'm going back to the plain pouch.
With the original pouch, as long as I don't leave the WiFi and blue tooth turned on, it goes 2-3 days before needing to recharge. Not quite as good as my 8310 which I could go 4-5 days but acceptable. I am thinking about getting the Seidio battery which is supposed to last longer.

battery
Before powering off your device its wise to close all applications running in the background like your connection to wi-fi or Edge , as well as making sure other programs like messenger and facebook that you log out and close these. This should prolong your battery issues.

I hate to break the news to you, but the OS itself has nothing to do with the battery life. I've said this many times before, but what drains the battery are basically 2 things: radios and lighting up the screen. It's the radios you cannot see, and there are several in the phone that can drain the battery pretty quick. Look into that, see what's running on the phone, and you'll probably solve the problem. Of course it's possible that you just got a defective battery. Sometimes swapping the OS will close out the radio that's draining the battery but technically speaking the OS itself is just software and doesn't affect the battery directly at all. It won't make things run more efficiently. I leave mine on at night with Wifi/UMA on, browser off, BT off, no GPS programs running, and mine won't drop hardly at all by morning with the .114 original OS, in or out of the pouch (mine has plenty of room in it fortunately, the one I bought and returned didn't). Hope this helps.

Here's an additional pointer in case it wasn't mentioned yet...
Turn OFF any wireless connections you aren't using! If you don't use the Wi-Fi, turn the Wi-Fi transmitter OFF to save battery power, same as you would on your laptop. I don't use Wi-Fi on my 8900, so that's one of the first things I did. If you don't use a Bluetooth headset or other Bluetooth device, turn your Bluetooth transmitter off, as well. Both of those drain extra power. If they aren't being used, there's no need to leave them on all the time.
Hope that helps.

Bedside mode? Where is it on the 8900, and how to enable it.
