The only way to do it without paying is to ask your carrier to give you the code. However, since you're with T-Mobile and they don't sell the Bold, you might be out of luck.

Horizon Wireless will get you the unlock code for around $10 USD. Check it out here:

Remote Unlock ANY AT&T / Cingular Blackberry Device [unlock-bb-att-remote] - USD$14.46 : HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß

And use Coupon Code: HOR10

Just call AT&T if they are your provider. They require that you enable the (free) international roaming option (allows you to use your SIM card overseas to roam if you choose) first... They will then send you the unlock code via email in a few days.

It is free .

Ususally if your payments are current and you have been a customer for six months or more, TMO will provide the unlock code.

Wirelessly posted (My Curve)

I don't think so. It is not their device. They will usually not tamper with it

To do it by yourself, you would need engineering software from RIM, which is illegal to own and/or distribute.

They have a RIM software to end this? And even if we had our hands on that software can it affect the fone?

If you didn't know what you were doing, you could easily make the phone a paperweight.

You need an unlock code from your service provider. They will send you step by step instructions. It's easy.

Ummm....We just covered the fact that T-Mobile will NOT issue a code because the device is not sold nor supported by them. Please read the entire thread before commenting.

You cannot unlock the Bold for free all by yourself. The only free way is to get the unlock code from the carrier that sold it. You need to be a customer of that carrier to request the free code.

The ONLY other way is to buy a code from some reputable dealer like Horizon Wireless. Anyone that tells you there are free methods is lying, plain and simple.

I know your carrier is T-Mobile, but would it hurt for you to try going to your local AT&T store and kindly ask rep to unlock it for you. Shoot, give it a try, why not, it might work!
