Hey guys...iam a newbie to the forum so i thought let me register to get some help as i only bought this 7290 2 days ago and its giving me hell!!

Okay i have afew questions i need to know how to solve if possible.

i purchased this 7290 just as a alternative phone to have, its unlocked and currently iam not sure if i should just activate a pay as you go sim for the mean time until i decide to get a contract for it...My other phone i use t mobile so i might just stick to that carrier. Now i was informed that i cannot use the email or internet features cause i dont have a blackberry plan which is fine but any sim would work for the calls, texts etc etc.

I went on a t mobile site for europe to download the OS 4.1 cause mine is 4.0, however their is no OS software at all when i log in to the site...so can i just use the usa t mobile OS 4.1??? I already have the 4.6 desktop manager installed so i was told that is fine.

Another thing i put my other phones sim in the blackberry and tried to call it, it went straight to voicemall, the blackberry did not ring at all? it listed all my phone book sim contacts but i mean i dont even see a option to ring out, its like where the hell is the ring option? have i got something disabled, this is driving me crazy...

Without a Blackberry data plan you can do phone and SMS only.

You can use anybody's OS on your 7290 as long as that OS is listed as for your specific model. You cannot use the OS for a 7520 or a 7230. Follow the upgrade guide for updating your 7290: How do I upgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

To change ringtones, ring volume, etc, on the Blackberry it's done from within the Profile. Go into Profiles, scroll down to the bottom and select Advanced. Then click on the Profile you want to modify to get a list of all the different notification events. Click on Phone and make sure it's not set to Mute. Choose the ringtone you want, volume, and then use the thumb wheel to access the menu and choose Save. Remember to save each individual change or they will revert to what they were previously.

Guess what i done it!!! i just came in here to say i solved the whole issue.

Dont ask me why but the t mobile uk site was up today, ive been checking that site for weeks...i updated the OS and the phone icon appeared so iam sure the phone is working fine, i will check abit later, the themes installed fine, no problems. the bliss theme looks sooo nice i have to say...

Also understand that you cannot do anything that would need a media card.

what you mean media card? i know this phone aint for media at all, i have my touch screen for all of dat, so if u mean that, yeaaa i know. its a damn shame cus i love the feel of the 7290, the newer models just look like smart cell phones.

The "Tower" icon that allows you to turn the RF "radio" portion of your BB OFF of ie; Can't make or receive calls/sms/etc., yet allows the unit to remain on. If this is turned off and you don't know /remember it (easy to do), your calls will go to VM...
You would know this if you have placed a call though.
