I don't post much on BB forums but I can tell you first hand that there are definite differences in Blackberry Bold cameras. I have had 3 Bolds and my most recent Bold has a fantastic camera. The unit was built in Hungary. The other two were marginal and blurry at best. I hope this bold lasts so that I will continue to have a good camera.

Suffice to say that the poor picture quality is probably attributable to the camera itself as opposed to the user.

Compared to other phones, I think this camera is awesome. Only downside is that any movement will make the picture blurry. A steady hand gets a good quality 2 MP picture. If you are looking for something more than 2 MP, get a real camera rather than a camera phone...

I've noticed that my Bold's outdoor shots are better than the indoor ones. I realize it has to do with the lighting. However, by zooming in on the outdoor shots, there still is graininess.

I'm not expecting SLR quality, either, but my Bold's camera seems to do a worse job in low light conditions than my old (gasp, the heresy!) Palm 600.

For visual "memos" (where I parked my car, photos of price tags and UPC codes while shopping) it's fine. For the spontaneous snapshot, I just hope that I'm outdoors or in good indoor lighting conditions.

BTW, I find the trackball is hard to use as a shutter. I tend to shake my Bold a bit more, even when I'm holding it with both hands. I have some success by holding the Bold horizontally in both hands and using the right button (now on top, like a "real" camera) to click the shutter...

One thing that I noticed is that if you store the images on the device, instead of on the sd card, it takes the picture quicker. That might help a bit

Mine use to take fairly good pictures for a phone, but changed when I upgraded to OS .373, now they are poor and grainly, Has anyone noticed the same thing?

Same issue here. Picture quality as well as video quality is horrible. The only way to take half-way decent pictures is in clear daylight and make sure you do not move at all.

I love the bold for its picture quality, you do have to get a bit more creative - but thats half the fun. I am experimenting with it on blackandwhiteberry.com and have just posted a tutorial on how to change the settings to black and white: How to set the Blackberry Bold to take Black and White Photographs.
