Default Battery Life Best Practices

Please Login to Remove!

I am real interested in any best practices you have to maximize battery life on your bold. When I talk on mine a fair amount I end up with real battery life issues by the end of the day. I do get 100+ emails per day in addition. I would appreciate any ideas you guys have. I am currently running 4.6.0.219 OS. Since I am on BES it is a major hassle to upgrade to a newer ROM, so I would like to avoid this unless there is a significant benefit. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I can relate to your needs. I was in the same situation about a year ago. you can take the advice of others and make chages to your settings, turn off your wifi, change the backlight settings or just restrict yourself from using the gps or surfing the web. i threw in the towel and picked up 2 extra batteries and an external charger. so what happens is i always have an extra battery on me and one in the charger. now life is much better. even on a busy day i can go 24 hours easy of emailing, gps, wifi, surfing, talking etc... if you look hard you can do it under $100.00.

I found that disabling 3G helped my battery life significantly. That may not be an option for you depending on who your carrier is.

Excellent article.. although the correct search item seems to be the one on the bottom.

If you can, when you are not using 3G, you should switch over to he edge network. This will save battery life. Unfortunately the AT&T version of the BOLD 9000 does not permit that action.

My phone is unlocked/debranded. I haven't seen a big difference in battery life on EDGE only. I must talk on the phone too much. Between mail and phone I am fighting to make it through the day. I took ruconcious's advice and bought a second battery today with a charger. Set me back $50, but I love the phone and this will keep me from worrying so much about how I use it.

Yeah, power users like yourself just can't go around the battery issue with just one battery.

i'm sure you'll love having extra batteries. it just makes the experience so much better when you're not concerned with battery life. trust me though, it's not a "bold" issue, its a smartphone issue. just imagine having an iphone and not having that option... that would suck for me.

I agree it is more of a 3G smartphone issue. I have a Tilt and also keep it in EDGE mode to conserve battery. AT&T should add this option as the 3G in NYC is really bad for calls.

The battery tips might help depending on how you're currently setup, but they aren't going to solve the problem.

With the Bold, I'm using the Seidio extended (standard size) battery and will probably just bite the bullet and get an external charger and use both batteries. The good news, from what I've read about the latest RIM beta, it won't take 5+ minutes to reboot on a battery pull; I think it is under a minute now.

Regards-Michael G.
