This seems to be a matter endemic to Verizon Storms and will probably only corrected with an OS upgrade if VZW programmers choose to examine the matter and hack in a fix.

As I observed in my post above, I don't think it's the device or device software at fault. I think it is RIM's BIS server responding to a "return receipt request" from the sender. I have a Bold and I get the exact behavior described above but only when the sender requests a receipt confirmation. Another observation is that I have two email providers (not including the native BB account) and I have only noticed this behavior when mail comes to the BB via the gmail account.

Make sure that your email is not "googlemail.com" instead of gmail.com when you get the return receipt. I was racking my brain trying to fix my fiances phone and noticed the googlemail even though gmail still works and gets the email sent. hopefully this made sense.

its how gmail is set up, if you look at gmail from a browser u would see an email history per convo,

eg if bill send me a mail and i reply, it is kept in gmail under *email from bill*

I have a similar issue with my sync'd gmail. Except, I have mine set so that I dont see my sent msgs, but it seems like I'm still getting the return receipts. My phone will alert me that I have unopened emails, right after I send one, but I can't see them. If I turn send receipts back on, I see the check mark next to the receipt, and even if I then open it, it still shows as unread. Makes it hard to tell when I actually have a new email. Any ideas?

I just use the Imap settings and it is lovable.
That way I don't have to check my email twice, but its personal pref.

How do you like version .109? I want to upgrade my OS, but am scared to void the warranty. I have a .75 backup, but I always have bad luck with these things.
