Lightbulb QWERTY versus AZERTY - has anyone ever tried to switch?

Please Login to Remove!

I suppose this is a general question about keyboard layouts, not just Blackberrys.

I've moved to France. Being American I've been reared on QWERTY. Here in France it's AZERTY. I just got a plan with Orange for a Blackberry and with the Javelin priced at €89, I thought: why not?

Had I thought a couple seconds, I'd have remembered about the different layout.

I haven't used it yet. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do.

I have read in other posts on this site that the software won't change the keyboard - it's hardware locked. I am not going to try to change the keyboard pad.

Therefore I'm wondering... has anyone ever tried to learn the new layout? Do you ever go back and forth between QWERTY and AZERTY?

Just wondering...

I haven't used an AZERTY keyboard but Wikipedia tells me there's only a few keys that have moved. However I worked in the US as a coder for a short time with a US keyboard and adapted pretty quickly to the few symbol keys that changed.

You'll get used to it eventually. I have used several different keyboards, and it doesn't take long to switch.

On the 8900, spell check will help you immensely.

Thanks for the comments.

I took it out and tried typing with it. It'll take a little adjusting, but I think I'll be able to get used to it.

At first I was thinking the differences were more extensive. On a real computer keyboard there really is a major difference. On the BB keyboard it's just the WAZQ. The rest of the keys and alt functions are the same.

Been typing on it for a day now - still not entirely used to it, but it's just fine.
