I am on rogers in canada and currently have v3 razor, and wanted the blackberry the pearl flip 8220 but this model has no gps the 8230 does which rogers dont carry.

The curve 8900 has gps and wi-fi so i was looking at getting this. I dont use my phone much just wanted the gps for when i go on vacation.

The price is 179 three year contract.

Is this a good phone does the battery last long, is it good/fast on the internet.

The 8900 is a good phone. Most BlackBerries have fairly good battery life, and replacement batteries should be relatively easy to come across. The 8900 supposedly doesn't have 3G capability which might be slower than a Bold, but I've heard a member on the forum say that because the 8900 has more data pipelines than the Bold, it performs quicker on EDGE than does a Bold with 3G.

I believe the 8230 is a CDMA device and won't work on Rogers. Generally the devices that are xx30 are all CDMA. The 8900 should be adequate, but as mentioned, I do not believe that it is 3G, so if that is an issue, the Bold might be the one you need.

As for speed Trimix, I don't know where you got your info ,but AFAIK, it is incorrect. EDGE is EDGE and 3G is 3G. The fastest EDGE speed (384 kbps) is just below the average for 3G (400 to 900 kbps). And the thing about data pipelines - what the heck is that all about? Never heard that one at all.

Speed is a function of the connection, the device (processor and memory), your distance to the tower and how much traffic is going through that tower.

You're asking a BlackBerry forum which one to get?

If web browsing, GPS and WIFI are the main features you're looking at and you don't use your phone for texting or email, you might be better off with an iPhone. The 8900 would be my choice, but this is going to be your phone so you need to research your choices and go get your hands on the demos at a Rogers store. Good luck!
