Please Login to Remove!

Browse to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

This is where you would find the vendor.xml file to delete. Also within this folder, you will see Loader.exe. Try running the upgrade using that.

Cool, got it. Thank you for your help, you were a great assistance. I thought I deleted the vendor file, but apparently I lied.

Good deal! Glad it's working for you. Those pesky vendor.xml files can be tricky at time

When you do an OS upgrade, it breaks the connection with the BES. You will need to reactivate your device.

BlackBerry.com has been pretty flaky lately. Keep trying.

Default Problems with special characters

Hi,

This OS release have problems with displaying special we use in Hungary like: , xxx337;, etc..

In the menus these characters appears correct, but when you have the incoming call, the translation of text above the caller ID (I guess originally its called: Incoming Call) will contain question mark in a diamond sign instead of the special characters.

Cheers,
Gabor

I've noticed in the past week since running .266 My bold stays on 3G (with bb icon) longer. Which is great. From what I know that is the highest 3G strength available.
Very Happy with this update.

Default Fatal errors

I have 247 and am trying to upgrade to 266.

The first time, using Loader, I got an error, and it left the BB intact with 247.

The second time, using DM, I got through the backups, then it gave me a fatal error, again leaving the BB intact.

Yes, the vendor.xml file is deleted.

Does anyone know the possible cause and/or remedy? Should I retry or do something else first?

Problem solved. I rebooted Windows and the upgrade succeeded.

When in doubt, Windows is usually the culprit, I guess.

I've been running this OS for almost a week now, no big problems. One strange thing though, Live Search seems to try to load at startup.
I do have Live Search installed and use it occassionally, no problem. I also alt-shift-del every morning, out of habit, just to start the day with clean memory. Since the update to .266, I noticed when I reboot this way, if I look at programs loaded, the Live Search icon was there. When I click on it, I get the Live Search screen, but with the message over it: "Please start your wifi connection and restart Live Search". I click on OK and Live Search closes down and it's gone.
I can still run Live Search properly if I click on the regular icon, and I can't find any setting in it which would tell it to 1. start up on boot, 2. use wi-fi only. In fact when I start Live Search manually, in a no-wi-fi area, it runs just fine.
So for now, when I reboot my Bold, I just go in and close out that phantom Live Search icon (it seems to drain the battery faster if I leave it running, but that could be my imagination).
Anybody else?

So I'm on AT&T and just upgraded from 210 which I've had for months without any real issues to 266. This is the first version I have used with the Visual Voice Mail icon. I know AT&T hasn't enabled the visual voice mail feature yet but I also remember reading in prior version threads that you had to jump through all these hoops just to get the regular voice mail notification icon when you have a message. Well I just tested it out by calling myself from a landline and leaving a message and the notification icon popped right up which I was pretty please about.

So is it safe to say that I don't need to mess around w/ anything for my voice mail to function properly?

If I click on the Visual Voice Mail application icon I get a message saying "Provisioning Unsuccessful..." I also noticed that the app is always running (it's in my task list along w/ the other 5 always active apps). Is there any reason to get rid of it? Or should I just leave it as is. If I should get rid of it, any quick links you can point me to?

Otherwise things seem to be working pretty well w/ 266.

Thanks

I'm using it for the last couple of days and happy with the overall performance.

Very stable and better than previous versions. No issue till now.

Battery life has increased a lot.

Good work RIM, Keep it up.

So here is my feedback after 3 days of testing :
-3G *is* stable, no call failed, no rollback to EDGE. This is the first time 3G is *really* stable. Only cons : eats up battery fast (1 to 2 days autonomy max)
-OS is a little more reactive than 221
-no background picture size or resizing issues like some others here
-no fonts issues
-WIFI is *way* faster
-Browser is a bit faster
-no sound weirdness when initiating a call

So to resume : right now, no bug found for me !

did the upgrade...not a problem, signal strenght seems to be stronger, we shall see if there is anything else that makes it a better built.

the thumbnails from my media card do come up very fast...I mean, I think the fastest ever...so that's a very visibly improvement.

I see the same issue with the 480x360 images....did not have that issue with 247. Now I have to manually do "VIEW ACTUAL SIZE" to fix it. I could not find any Options to set this as default.

Default did not update to 4.6.0.266

Hello,

I downloaded and ran both the desktop and handheld software, but the OS did not update to 4.6.0.266.

It still shows 4.6.0.190 on my Bold.

Any suggestions?
