Default I need help instalilng desktop manager!

Please Login to Remove!

I downloaded desktop manager directly from RIM...

It was giving me an error that woudn't let me install at first beacuse it was lookign for some file in a temp folder that is long gone.

Okay so I found the instructions on how to wipe the system cleann of any previous versions of the software by deleting registry keys and by deleting the folders in program files in my C drive.

So now I try to run the installer and its saying "the wizard was interrupted before blackberry desktop software could be completely installed"

I searched on the forum and I found a thread telling me to do what I've already done (clear the registry keys and Delete the RIM folders) and its still giving me the same trouble.

Please help, this shit is driving me insane!!

well see thats my first problem

I firstly uninstalled it from programs in control panel

but its still there.

I cleaned the registry and deleted the program files and restarted. and its still in the Remove Programs box in Control Panel.

I can't get rid of the old one no matter what I do.

I go back into registry and I dont see it there.

Yet it still shows up under the Remove Programs dialog box in Control Panel.

When i try to remove it again i get a box that says 'this action is only valid for programs that are installed.

WELL IF ITS NOT INSTALLED WHY IS IT IN THAT LIST?!! GRR.

So I did some searching online and was told to download and install and use this Microsoft Installer Clean up Utility which I did, and ran it. From that list, the black berry software is now gone. But I'm still seeing it in control panel after that.

All registry keys having to do with blackberry is gone, and all program files regarding RIM or Puma Tech is gone.

I dont know what else to do i'm about to throw my fist through the wall.

Any suggestions, ANYTHING i'd be willing to try (other than reformat the comp and reinstalling windows of course)

Can you go to Restore and restore the PC state to a day/time just proior to the DM install? Keep in mind that you might lose anything you did after the install.

Thats not really an option.

See it has been givng me this troulbe for quite some time but my phone hasn't been bugging me so i haven't taken the time to fix it.

Well the phone is giving me trouble keeps rebooting etc... I'm still running .75 on the phone and was gonna upgrade to one of the newer versions but I can't without fixing this.

Point being its been a while since I first uninstalled the software and I can't go back that far in the system restore. I'll loose too many things.

I search for all kinds of fixes... and on the forum everyone says to find this article "KB 04107' on RIM Support's site... but it doesn't load for me. says the article has been deleted.

You could try giving the flaky dm installation a nuke with revo unistaller, which should clear it out completely...

Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems

then reinstall DM and you should be all good.

What OS are you running on your PC?
Is it still listed in the list in Add/Remove programs, if so download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility. Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Install it and run it, if it's listed in there then remove it.

After that Go to Start -> Run, or Hold the Menu Key and hit the "Letter R", and type the word "temp" and then hit enter, delete everything in the window that comes that comes up. Then reboot the PC and try to install it again.

I already tried that windows installer cleanup. When i did it, it still stayed there.

I tried the revo uninstaller also.. both of them ask for the 'blackberry desktop software.msi' that is supposedly located in this temp directory (which its not)

So I extracted the files in the software I downloaded to a folder. Pointed the dialog box to go to that file but it just keeps asking for the file, it doesn't work.

I try to just run the installer from the new package that I extracted to a permanent folder, and it says something has interrupted it please try again later (something to that effect)

I've troubleshooted a lotta problems in my day but this is by far the most frustrating.

Makes you wanna bang ur head against a wall repeatedly.

Please guys any other suggestions I'm ALL ears.

okay so now, I got the program to delete from the add/remove in the control panel using your method.

Also UAC IS disabled

However now I try to run the installer and it says "The wizard was interrupted before Blackberry Desktop Software could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another ime, pelase run setup again.

Click finish to exit wizard.

And I can't get it to go past that.

Any ideas?

I would run the Windows installer clean up again and reboot the PC. If that doesn't help, there is an article on the RIM support site about repairing the windows installer. I posted the link here a while back, I will see if I can find it again.

Edit, I think this is it -- it's actually how update to the latest version of InstallShield:
Q108322: Update to the Latest InstallShield Installation Engines

Frustration made me despirate.

I just did a search for "Research in motion" in the Registry and started deleting anything it found.

(beyond the two folders listed before)

it worked.

I'm in the process of installing the latest firmware update for the storm now.

Wish me luck!

I've learned a lot of things, especially out of pc frustration. This is a handy link.

Also disable any AntiVirus, Security, Firewall, AntiSpyware software you have.

While you perform the install.
