that is strange. i thought it would have something to do with file permissions and read/write access in windows....apparently that's not the case.

which version of dm are you installing ? 32-bit/64-bit, media manager included or not, 4.7 or 4.6, etc...

are you sure you're installing the correct version of dm ? i'm not sure but if dm comes in 64-bit and you are installing it on a 32-bit version of windows that will not work either.

I had .122 and I was upgrading to .172 and somehow I ended back at .65! It shows all versions on the desktop software but when I highlight .172 it says "no software update is required for you device" I dont know why this is...I followed all the steps and it worked fine for me last time when I installed v.122.

I am new on this Forum. I have v4.7.0.132 (Platform 4.0.0162) does this mean that this download is a better version? what I dont understand is >> * Applications: 4.7.0.122 * Software Platform: 4.0.0.153 << those are lower numbers than what I have. Please forgive my ignorance. I appreciate some advise on this.
Thank you..

BBStormLover, stick with the Beta OS you have, it is higher than this .122 official release.

If you experience problems that you MUST downgrade your OS, this would be one to drop to.

turned on bluetooth via manage connections.

Download was smooth, install was smooth, so far so good! I've been on this OS for about 15 minutes now and the two things I noticed immediately are, 1. movement through the OS seems to be a bit faster and more smooth, and 2. the camera takes pictures WAY faster than .75 (which was one of my earlier complaints given how good the quality of the pictures are it takes).

I'm crossing my fingers...

After being TDY for a few weeks, I decided to give this another shot.

Same error.

So I tried downloading and installing Dm (4.6) thinking maybe the computer doesn't like 4.7. Downloaded and installed 4.6 - same error. Tried it without the media manager - same error.

I'm starting to think I'll be stuck at 4.7.0.75 :(

Think I'll try an earlier version when I get home tonight. 3rd time is a charm, right. . .

As for the 32 vs. 64 bit - I'm not too sure. When I go to the download site it just says 4.7 w/or w/out media manager and so on. Maybe I am trying to install the wrong one. . .

You don't need DM to install an OS, read the instructions at the top of this thread.

But if DM wasn't installed and connected to a BB, would the vendor.xml and loader.exe files exist?

Yes, if you install the OS to your PC, it installs the loader.exe and the vendor file. This is why the OS upgrade instructions all across this Forum were re-written to dis-include using Desktop Manager for the upgrade.

Now if I install the new OS without DM - will my data remain on the Storm (i.e. music, pix, contacts, etc?).

Or will the new OS overwrite everything on the Storm?

The new OS will overwrite everything on the device AND it will restore everything on the device, as long as that option is checked (to backup and restore all data, messages, third party applications). You'll see that toward the end of the pre-upgrade window in the loader. That backup and restore options is by default checked.

My best advice is to always do your own backup first, for which you will need Desktop Manager loaded to the PC.

Well isn't this a kick in the teeth.

So I attempted to install the OS.

Looked like everything was running fine - got to select my language and it began going through it's motions, then I get it again:

"Error 1606.Could not access network location %APPDATA%\"

Finally found my problem.

For some reason, I had to edit the registry keyes as there was no "AppData" key listed.

So after consulting MS for the appropriate field, I added it in and it is currently installing.

Go me.

When I downloaded the upgrade to my computer and went looking for the vendor file to be deleted, there isn't one. Now what do I do?
