Default Should I update my 9530?

Please Login to Remove!

I have 4.7.0.76 on my 9530 with Telus. It just says no updates available when I try and update from the phone. Would I benefit from downloading and installing one of the operating systems posted on here? Phone does tend to run pretty slow at times but after a battery pull it's not too bad and it does have quite a memory leak along with occassionally it'll just reboot itself at random.

Read through all the posts in the "Latest OS" sticky at the top of the forum (link is below). The feedback form users who have done the download should help you some...my own general rule of thumb is, that unless an OS provides some enhanced features or corrects some known bugs, I don't upgrade...but everyone has their own opinion on this.

I agree with ndub. If your device isn't broken, there is no reason to fix it.

After three generations of blackberry phones, I would definitely say YES to upgrade the OS.
With the newer OS's the leaks are few and far inbetween. I rarely do battery pulls anymore with mine.

The update for the 9530 says it's for verizon so should I not install that or would it be the same for all carriers?

It is the same for all carriers as long as it is for the 9530 and not the 9500. You would just need to delete the vendor.xml file.

Yes by all means update. It is a great software version that is out right now. My phone was sluggish and loading slow, but I believe it was due to the themes I downloaded. People don't take in the account that themes slow devices down and go for clutter mostly. I have downloaded animated themes and man did they run so slow on my Storm. Now I use the default theme and my phone is blazing, even with only 17mb of file free memory.

Okay so I have a little problem here. I downloaded and ran the setup for the new operating system and then deleted the vendor.xml file on my computer. I then ran desktop manager and went to the application loader to and I had both of the operating systems available to install. I checked off the new one and hit next. Then it starts searching for updates or something and just comes up with a message about no updates being available. It doesn't install the new operating system. What am I doing wrong here? This is a lot different then the old desktop manager I had with my Pearl.

Once the vendor file is deleted. go to

Start / Computer / Local Disk / Program Files / Common Files / Research in Motion / App Loader

Once there, click on Loader.

That should get ya going

For anyone but the most savvy Blackberry Storm users,
an upgrade in Operating System is difficult. Itxxx8217;s doable,
but difficult. When you first get the device, it takes quite
a bit of time to get the device just the way you like it.
All the Apps set up, and dialed in, all the ringtones, alerts,
and notices set. All the Icons moved to the correct location
for convenience. Then the upgrade, and itxxx8217;s all back to
the way it was when you first got the device!
Yes, I backed everything up, and was able to replace
the files that restored all my settings, and after a
battery pull, and resending my Service Books, the
device is about 90% back to normal, but I am not a
Blackberry wizard, and this was a nerve wracking
experience! If I had it to do over again, or for the next
update, I will take it to the Verizon store, and ask them
to update it.
By the way...I do like the changes with .148.
I wasn't unhappy with .75, as I never really had the
issues or problems that many here have reported, but
.148 has made using the Storm more pleasurable to use.

I have to disagree with this. I guess I could say I am more savvy than most. But the fact is that the backup process creates a backup and restores your settings after the OS upgrade. Therefore, you do not need to go and reset everything (icons, notifications, etc) again.

Default Problems updating - Insufficient

I received notice on my screen "Download" icon saying that an update is available. I went to update my Storm and downloaded the latest update. Then it said I wouldn't be able to use my phone for up to 2 hours during the update. Since I use the phone to view San Diego MLS listings in my real estate business I was reluctant... but I did it anyway. But I didn't get far before a messages comes up that says "Upgrade requires additional memory".... deleting personal files"
So it seemed like the phone would automatically delete the files, but then the error messages switches to "Not enough memory to complete upgrade. Delete 6.0MB of personal data and then resume upgrade."
From that it sounds like I need to delete 6MB of personal files in order to continue. So I plugged in to my computer and used windows explorer to view the drives. There is the standard hard drive and also a 8MB micro drive. The first drive was full so I removed the only few personal files that I had on there, and moved them to the 8MB card which still has about 90% of its space left.
So now there is nothing left to remove from the phone's hard drive, but I still get the error message saying that I need to delete files and free up 6MB of space in order to proceed with the update.
Any suggestions?
