Smile Tour Issues / App Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Ive had the 7130e and 8830. Now the Tour, I love it.

I think whenever you get a new device you try to configure it to "familiar settings."

Here are a few issues I am having with the phone or questions on apps:

1. Email font. I only have 2 email accounts to my blackberry for now. Yahoo font is fine, Gmail seems to be very large. What is the fix?

2. Trackball inconsistency. I ran perfect the first day. Now it moves very without precision. Any good way to clean it?

3. I occasionally I get random noises I think that were from Facebook / Twitter apps. I have them all on Silent so I do not know what it is from.

4. BBAlerts. Anyone tried it? I do not want to but it if it's not compatible yet.

5. The browser seems to be an upgrade over 8830. Anyone using Opera or Bolt. If so, why?

6. I currently have Viigo (most have), Google maps, facebook, and twitterberry. Any other must haves?

7. Does visual voicemail cost $? Never used it before. I imagine it uses data.

8. 8830 Contact list would be in ABC order, even if you put in a Title. Now, it uses ABC order, but uses the First Name instead of the Title for ABC order. How do you change this?

The only one I can easily answer is that visual voicemail is a monthly fee with Verizon. I was excited about it, until I learned that.

I gotta say I wasn't happy about the fee either but it is the coolest app on the phone. Totally worth the cost IMO.

Nope. I refuse. It is a neat feature, but not one I will ever pay for, at least alone. Maybe if it was part of a bundle I wanted or something.

I have not had any problem with the trackball yet. I wouldn't think that it could be that dirty yet. I don't know how to get at this one yet. With the curve it was easy to pop off the dust ring.

I have opera and bolt installed. I have not used it enough to know if I need them for sure on this one. On the curve bolt would give me access to "buttons" that the others didn't. Opera gave me a better format for much stuff than the standard one.

Really, I guess I don't see the value in paying for text voicemails. How much is it per voicemail typically?

Yeah, the trackball isn't moving left to right smoothly. I might just drop by VZW and tell them to replace it.

Please let me know if you continue using either one over BB Browser and if so why.

Try the BB Browser first. If it's like the 8900 most people who were OperaMini/Bolt lovers on Curves/Pearls prefer the BB Browser now.

Might try changing the sensitivity in the Option/Screen menu first.

I have my vertical at 70 and horizontal at 90.

Seems to get rid of the lack of horizontal sensitivity...

I too was excited about it, and when I saw that VZW was going to charge a monthly fee, I decided I could do without it. I'm very disappointed that VZW is charging for it.

I feel your pain, but you do realize that you're doing it the hard way, right?

That's what the Device change wizard in DM is for! It moves over all of your data, settings & even 3rd party apps (if you choose to do so).

Swapping out my Storm (what a POS) for the Tour took me all of 35 mins - including re-doing the EA to my BES.

1. Backup old device.
2. Shutdown radio on old device & activate new
3. Run device change wizard.
4. Enterprise Activate
5. Update PIN on BIS page

Done & all of your settings will be moved over to the new handheld.

It's much easier - and quicker - than doing it all manually IMO.

It's been in the BB desktop manager for the past couple of years.

On DM 4.7, my options on the main screen are:

App Loader
Backup & Restore
Device Switch Wizard
Email Settings
Media
Syncronize

The device change wizard will not import profiles unless you are coming from a storm. It can't transfer 4.5 profiles to 4.7 profiles as they are too different. I used it and it told me it couldn't.

I set up my profiles to vibrate only in the holster but I get the vibrate followed by the tone. I double checked and sound in holster is off, but I still get it.
Is anyone else having this? The fact that I didn't have to change the profile to vibrate each time I put it in or out of the holster is one of the things I love about BB. Now I can't make it work.

in regards to this question:

2. Trackball inconsistency. I ran perfect the first day. Now it moves very without precision. Any good way to clean it?

if you go to Options (wrench) then choose Screen/Keyboard

There is an option to tweak the sensitivity of the trackball. You can tweak it for Horizontal and Vertical movement. It helped ours. We set the Horizontal Movement to 80 or 90 and liked it much better.

I had the same issue and moved to the same increments of 80 vertical and 90 horizontal. Now it is inconsistent at those levels. I find that I need to push in a bit and move unlike when I first started using it.

Mine seems to be much less consistently as well today. I am getting a lot of vertical when I am moving horizontally.
