Default Formatting Media Card

I've had no issues with my media card, but I've seen mixed opinions as to whether or not you should format the media card. What are the pro's and con's? I just got a new replacement Tour today because I had some lag and track ball issues, and I finished restoring my back up on it but haven't formatted the media card.

I beleive that it is always wise to format with a new device due to differences in versions of operating systems. Look at all of the people getting new 4.5 devices when the previously had 4.3 and go nothing but constant reboots. If nothing else a fresh start will make access quicker.

So should I even bother now that I've restored my back up?

Not if you aren't having rebooting issues or access speed issues.

If I were to be having those problems, should I first back everything up, format the media card, then restore?

You got it and it's the directory and index files that cause issues. When you move back to the newly formatted card only copy the actual files, pics, music, etc.

I have never had to format an SD card in all the years that I have been using them. Just open the package and pop them in and they work. Of course, I always get name brands from reputable dealers such as Staples.

If you format, you risk destroying the card.
