Default Question about BB 8350 i

Please Login to Remove!

I might be getting the new 8350 i from my employer but after doing some research, it doesn't have the mobile broadband capability and I heard there are some bugs with SMS.

Is there some over feature on this BlackBerry that acts like a mobile broaband so I can actually receive network connection in an airport or in an area where wifi is unavailable.

If not, I think this device is pretty weak!

Thanks!

I tried reading some reviews and searched on here about the mobile broadband for this model.

The device is WiFi capable.

The point I am trying to say is that the Curve has the capability to use Sprint Mobile Broadband. Does the 8350 i have any features that mimic the mobile Broadband of the Curve?

Or

Are you saying that the WiFi capability is some what similar to the broadband feature. However, isn't the WiFi feature useless if I have a wireless card on my laptop?

thanks for the help and info.

Platinum - Do you like the 8350i? What features grabbed you to this BlackBerry besides the walkie talkie function?

Are you referring to tethering?

Yes I am, using the USB cord that is connected to my BlackBerry from my NB and I use the software Sprint SmartView to access a network connection when a WiFi connection isn't available or I need to pay to use the internet at a coffee shop.

If you have to have PTT, then it's your best bet right now. I gave up a Sprint Mogul (needed PTT for work, was tired of carrying two phones) to get the 8350i and the only thing I miss is the speed. All around it's a great phone and messaging tool. Not great for surfing the net.

Not, it is not impossible. The iDen specification doesn't included SMS. So, it is up to the carrier to add it. And it looks like Mike didn't.

Telus (mike) told me to use the web page from the blackberry to send sms , you can't use native function

EVEN if you select the phone on the website (probably they missed that 8330 and 8350i arn't same phone) that procedure doesn't work

you don't even see "compose a SMS"

from what I'Ve read over the net, the iden technology doesn't include SMS technology but carriers can do somes special thing to make it work.. (I am able to receive SMS)

on other carriers
somes have been able to use mms as SMS, somes use email [email address]
it's not clear at all...

so this is the reason why I want some info specifc to Mike network

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the iden network's text messaging system is MMS. The option is in your menu list and functions exactly as SMS on other carriers. You have the ability to MMS pics exactly as SMS. you can carry on text conversations for any duration of time with the same 160 character limitation as SMS.
The phone is probably the most advanced curve available (minus the curve 2, 8900 on tmo), has 4.6 OS and the ability to direct connect (PTT). As a few have stated, the iden data network is slower than some, but WiFi comes to the rescue for that. But seriously, other than checking the weather, a sports score or your stocks, who really looks at a 2in screen for browsing the internet? oooh, what an enjoyable surfing experience that would be...

mms and SMS options (compose SMS, compose MMS) don't exist on the 8350i from Mike....
