Default OperaMini 'Nag'

Please Login to Remove!

I've got a Curve 8330 and I'm using Opera Mini on it. Every time I start Opera, it asks if I want to allow Opera to access server4.operamini.com...I choose 'Yes' and I'm on my way. It's not a super big deal, but it kinda annoys me.

As far as I can tell, all permissions are set to 'Allow'. I'm either missing something, or this is just something that I have to learn to accept. Is anyone else having the same issue? Has anyone figured out how to solve this?

If you can, go into Options, Security Options and enable the BB firewall. If you're on BES you might not be able to do this.

::UPDATE::

Oh Man, activating the firewall took care of the Opera Mini prob, but then unleashed a tidal wave of other nags. Many were the 'one-time' firewall prompts, but some are reoccurring. MyWeather Lite went into an endless battle with the firewall, causing a permission request that would not stop popping up. I'd click 'yes' and it would just pop up again. I finally yanked the battery, rebooted and deactivated the firewall.

On the bright side, the firewall did reveal what has been using network access while I'm not intentionally accessing the network...another weather app: WeatherEye. It's cool how that app's icon changes with the weather, but it constantly accesses the internet to update it's info, and that was causing a little lag here and there. Now I know.

Is it really necessary to have the firewall running on a cell phone? It's just a phone, who's going to try to hack into my phone? All they would find is pictures of my cat...

I think you can use the firewall to block certain types of messages. It's really a convenience for Opera Mini to eliminate that pop-up message--that's all I use it for.

You don't have to have the firewall turned on in order to block messages. I've always had the firewall off and just told the device to block sms and mms. Works fine.

The Opera "nag" notification might be a slight irritance but that's all it is. I've been keeping my Opera Mini running (not shutting it down) and I don't feel it has affected my battery consumption all that much if any.

If its affecting your other programs, just leave the firewall turned off.

I like just leaving Opera running...it pops right up when I need it, I don't have to sign back into sites like Twitter (that always forget your info when you close the browser), and the permission nag doesn't pop up. Battery was my concern...I'll try and see what effect it has.

Battery was my concern as well and it doesn't seem to have taken a big or even noticeable hit. I would imagine the app to be relatively low on the power consumption end as it doesn't need to ping anything while its inactive. I also have my Opera Mini set on socket.
