Default Cingular Wireless to cut Data Connect Capability

Please Login to Remove!

While on the phone with a BB specialist with Cingular today and interrogating him regarding how to go about browsing the internet on my 7290 the most cost effective way, I mentioned to him about setting up a HTML capable browser and using the Data Connect setup instead of the very expensive BB package.

He informed me that they are currently in the upgrading of their systems to cut that capability out, to force any and all BB Cingular customers to go with one of the 2 BB MM packages.

This sucks!

Better get all you can while you can, the end is nigh!

I don't believe anything I hear from cingular's reps these days. I'll believe it when I see it.

I tend to agree. Cingular has a different story for each different rep. Don't believe anything you hear from anyone who you speak to in customer service.

I think reps just make up whatever they want. Don't believe anything they tell you. These are the same people who think you have to buy a $20 data plan on top of your $50 blackberry plan.... all idiots.

I thought I would tack on the your thread and ask a question or two.

I have a 7290 (just got it) and want to connect to the internet and get mail. I still need to change me service at Cingular.

If I choose a data palan I can connect and use Pop3 email on my BB but I do not get all the push email capabilities that the BB offers correct?

http://www.cingular.com/midtolarge/data_connect

Above is the page I am looking at: I see some of the data plans are cheaper but the unlimited plan is not. The BB plans are farther down the page and are 39.95 and 49.95......the 39.95 is for 4 m, I wonder how many emails this would be?

I like the idea of having the push technology, the redirector for me would seem to be a perfect solution (on the cheap side) if I decide to use the data plan and setup a pop account on my BB do I have to get a 3rd party mail program?

Thanks again for all of your help....I am getting more used to this thing every day....

OH and I am assuming there is nothing like this but have to ask.....Is there any other solution to BES except for BES? I heard someone mention that if you went to Cingular and signed a contract for 2 years and got something like 5 Blackberrys they would comp you BES....is that true? No open source solutions?

Again thinks for all the help and sorry for the newbe questions...

Biff
