Default Lock out policy

Please Login to Remove!

i didn't see anything on the search, but i'm being asked by new mgmt members if there is a way to just "lock" the blackberry after the 5 failed password attempts (our threshold is 5) - instead of having it wipe the device. Yes, i know you get multiple warnings that your device will be wiped, but these are new bosses and they are on my arse about this.....

No, there is no way to 'just' lock the device. After x number of failed attempts (whatever is set in the IT Policy) the device will wipe.

thank you, that was my assumption as well, but i wanted a confirmation.

how about this? -

a user fails 4 times - then calls me, can i push a new policy that does not require a password on the device? - will that get around the current password on the device?

No, that won't help. When the IT Policy enforces the password the password required field is set to 'Enabled' on the device. The user would still have to change it to 'Disabled' to not require a password.

Better yet, you could just reset their password for them from the BES, which starts the count over when their device receives the new password.

the blackberry is already "just locked" no matter how many failed attempts you have set but if you dont want it to wipe after so few attempts you can also just change the number of failed attempts to something rediculous like 100- though not sure what the actual limit you can set there.

hey, if they cant remember their password after 5 attempts, maybe it will come to them after 95 attempts.

Wirelessly posted (My blond BlackBerry)

The max is 10 attempts (also the default).

my feeling is that if you let your device go all the way to the wipe, you deserve it because after the 2nd attempt you have to type blackberry to continue (to show yourself what you are typing) - then the same process for the 3rd & 4th tries, then before the 5th you get warned that your data will be erased if you fail again. - if you aren't smart enough to call me before that, then you really shouldn't have a blackberry

Obvious and a bit sarcastic... You could always tell them to just "REMEMBER THEIR FREAKIN PASSWORD!!!" LOL
