You're just nitpicking now.
Verizon devices don't use SIM cards to access their network. Why does my 8330 not have a SIM card but still make calls and receive data? Because as JSanders stated, Verizon devices don't use SIM cards (to access their network).
The reason you have a SIM is to access GSM frequencies in Europe (on the 8830, all GSM networks on newer devices such as the Storm and Tour). I believe you already know this.
