So I was just texting w/ someone and the notification that pops up is the little blue BBM bubbles. And I can view the chat in either the SMS app or BBM. Did they merge the two in 5.0? Not sure I really like it b/c I like to have different notifications for BBMs than texts (for example I have BBMs make noise but texts are silent). Anyway to de-link the two?

The thing I find annoying is the difference in audio alerts. I haven't figured out if it matters 1) If you start the conversation or if they do and 2) If it's a person tied to a BBM contact or not.

yeah exactly...the audio alerts are what bother me. the person I was texting with is a BBM contact so I guess it's possible it only does that w/ a BBM contact.

Figured it out. Basically if you have someone who is a BBM contact and they are "linked" to your contacts then if you send or receive a text from them it shows up in BBM. The way to separate the two is to go into BBM into the contacts section and for each contact, go to Menu and click "Remove Contacts Link" (it's towards the bottom of the menu). Basically this breaks the link between BBM and SMS. I think the only downside is that if you are using the picture from your contacts for BBM it will no longer appear. Note that if you don't see the option and instead see ""Link to BlackBerry Contact" it means the link was never established so there is no need to break it.

If you go to Options>Ringtones and Alerts you can change them both.
