Default Different Outlook "Profiles" and DM

Please Login to Remove!

I have been successfuly running Desktop Manager 4.2.2.12 and Outlook 2002 for several years now on my desktop computer, with one email account. All I do now is plug my phone into the USB, open DM and it automatically updates Outlook (I don't even have to "open" the Outlook application).

However, the desktop is failing, and I have installed Outllook 2007 on my laptop. Outlook 2007 will allow me to create different "profiles" for different email accounts, but I'm not sure how DM 4.2.2.12 will work with the different Profiles. According to the Outlook instructions, after you open Outlook, you have to select which Profile you want to use. As stated above, DM has worked great with the one email account, bit how will DM recognize and handle the different Profiles? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I don't think you are going to be able to use that old DM with the new Outlook. Upgrade to the newst version of DM (v. 5.0.1). When you install, you'll be promplted to choose a profile.

If you just use Outlook, with just one profile, I expect the only choice you'll see when DM prompts your for profile is Outlook.

Default DM and BB OS

aiharkness, thanks very much. But can I use DM 5.0.1 and a different OS (v4.2.2.196) on my 8830 BB?

Doesn't matter.

By the way, when you install the new DM, if you select the option to check for updates, it will notify you that there is an update for the device software. You will, if you desire, be able to upgrade the OS from desktop manager. No need to manually find, download and install the OS sofware as before. FYI.

Default Actually, one last question

As I originally said, all I do now is plug my phone into the USB, open DM and it automatically updates Outlook 2002 (I don't even have to "open" the Outlook application). With DM 5.0 and Outlook 2007 running multiple profiles...when I plug my phone in, and start DM 5.0, will I have to open Outlook also, to make sure DM has access to the different profiles? Or will DM 5.0 be able to access the different profiles automatically, without first opening Outlook?

Wirelessly posted (8820)

You will not have to open Outlook.

One thing you may notice is DM 4.2 will run minimized in the systme tray and the accept/reject dialog boxes will come up on your desktop. If you encrypt your backups, you won't see the dialog box for your password when DM 5.0.1 is minimized in the system tray (but the windows prompt for file location does open on the desktop).

EDIT: The accept/reject dialog boxes do appear on the desktop when DM 5.0.1 is minimized. It is only the password prompt for encrypted backup that stays hidden if DM is minimized in the system tray. But if you forget, and then open DM onto the desktop, the password prompt is there.
