Default Weather Push unavailable for 9700?!?

Please Login to Remove!

Just got my 9700.

Unfortunately the trusty Weather Push from Blackberry seems unavailable for the 9700 (yet?). By Push service I mean the icon on your home screen being pushed to your device by either the weather channel or accuweather with location specific forecast. From the NEws and Weather section of the Mobile Blackberry homepage (mobile.blackberry.com) is the last service (page 4). Worked and still works like a charm for the 8300, 8900 and 9000.

But with the 9700 i get a laconic "The service is currently not available for your device".

For a while it was called Web Signal, but then became simply Push service starting from the Bold 9000 I think )or maybe these are still two different things, no clue). While not always accurate, it was very handy, light and reliable,

Alternatives? Solutions? Ideas?

Thanks

http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=BBWeather

Please visit this link via your BB browswer and download it.

It's BB weather.. I've used it forever...its simple and easy and gets you what you want.

There's also some weather apps available in appworld... some pretty good pay ones where you can even have it alert you when there is a weather warning.

But BB Weather gets me what I want.

If you want to download it to your desktop and load it via DM visit here

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

I'm testing weathereye from the Weather Network. Miss the home screen icon from the weather push, simpler and more in line with the 5.0 Zen theme.

Agreed, I use this service as well and it didn't migrate over with the move to the 9700. I've still got the icon, but it's not updating anymore.... And actually the bookmark on the browser still brings up the info, but not in the nice animated page anymore.

Hopefully they'll add this and not abandon push services on the new models..

Found something! I just signed up so we'll see what it looks like, but it appears to be a push weather service that I could sign up for..

Here's where I found info on it:
BlackBerry - Web Signals

I followed the accuweather instructions and am awaiting my first push.

HaTaX is correct

The web signal still works, the icon is more OS 4.5 style and the internet page is clearly formatted for the 8XXX series definition, but hey better than nothing.

I will shoot an email to the blackberry support anyway. Little noise won't hurt.

I can vouch for BBWeather that it is a STELLAR weather application and sure as hell gets the job done. I love it, especially the BBWeather GPS version because it adds in even more features than before. Best of all, it's free!

I miss AccuWeather on the 9700... I track six cities, and I liked the fact of having a row of icons on my home page with the six icons, I could hover over.

None of the alternative push services seem to do this... unless I'm missing the functionality.

i have tried almost every weather app. BBWeather is by far the best. it just plain works!! and you cant beat free! the experimental GPS version has a few bugs. so if you want reliability, install the official one. currently V0.89.1 bbweather doesn't make it obvious, but you can easily have multiple locations

BBWeather is nice, but it's just another application using resources on the phone VS the push services that are no more disruptive then receiving an e-mail. I try to keep my phone lean and mean.

Hopefully they'll spruce up the weather offerings in their new Web Signals program.

Any indications when we will have the good push weather supported on the 9700?? I tried every possible program, but none really as simple and friendly as our good icons. I track four cities permanently, and no other offers my the option of displaying one icon per location...

My BlackBerry weather "web signal" works just fine on the 9700. Using the latest OS from AT&T.
