Very nice summary. Strange about BBM - when I installed the OS it showed 5.0.0.33 which is what I was expecting to see from this version.

I'm very happy with it also - the fix to profile save was worth the effort and then some - that one irked me no end.

The best OS as of today.

Great Battery life. Excellent speed and performance.

Loving every moment of my Bold 9700.

For whatever reason, when I reboot my BB9700 with version 0.423, the inbox settings to combine email account (s) and SMS/MMS does not retain the preference although it is still showing checked off. I realized that I couldn't see my old text messages..

I have to uncheck and check off the preference, mysteriouisly the preference does then carry over in the inbox, and my inbox contained emails and sms/mms.

I wonder if anyone has seen this too....not a biggie, just something to keep in my mind. I do not get a lot of Text Messages, so I am not sure if the preference maybe kicks back "automatically back when you do receive a text....

With this build, when the Berry first boots I get a popup that says, "Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_phone_app (53) is not responding; process terminated".

I had this same thing with the 5.0 beta I installed on my 8900.

This OS is for the 9700 only, not for the 8900!

I did a backup via DM to make sure there was no corruption of the data before I actually run the loader to upgrade the OS. It paused for some time but did ultimately succeed in both the backup and the restore.
Mine did stall out on the restore phase. I pulled the cord, and manually restored all databases from the backup that I took immediately before starting the upgrade.

If you do/did disconnect the phone, make sure it is in the restoring data phase... or you'll end up with a 507 error and have to wipe with something like JL_commander and starting the upgrade over.

I saw this article earlier today... regarding the two flavors of 9700 (T-Mobile and everyone else)... talking about mixing the OS between versions that could cause some issues due to the specific tweaks for the different 3G network frequencies... YMMV:

I just tried and had no problem. I recorded audio and stopped it without issue.

I sat the same article.. 423 is running good on AT&T so far not sure about Tmobile. They seem to be different from AT&T and the rest of the world in terms of 3G frequencies (per the article above).

for what it is worth, i installed an older version (i think 415 or 421) and I kept getting Failed Calls on AT&T... like every other call.

I never tried .421, but I ran .351, .405 and .415 all on my AT&T 9700 without issue. I really think the problems will surface mostly with the T-Mo version, as it's the non-standard equipment. Just don't put a T-Mo OS on your AT&T phone.

I have not dropped a call on AT&T in years...

Question Unable to upgrade

Thanks a lot for the post, but I don't seem to be having much luck in upgrading the OS.

I do all the steps as instructed, then launch the loader and it seems to go through the upgrade, but afterwards I realise that I still have the old version of the OS. Any ideas why??? Where am I going wrong?

Thanks

Yes, yes, I installed this version on my 9700. I had a 5.0 beta for the 8900 on my 8900.

I don't get the "uncaught exception" error on every startup...about 50% of them.

Ensure you follow the instructions in the first post in this thread, particularly the part about deleting the vendor.xml file.

Pretty sure I follow the instructions line by line (including locating and deleting Vendor.xml), but it just doesn't seem to recognise the fact that I have an updated version of the OS and so doesn't seem to upgrade.

My current OS is:

Applications: v5.0.0.321
Software platform: v5.1.0.90

Really confused why it's not picking up the upgrade.

Are you using the destop manager or the Loader.exe file in the directory the vendor.xml file was in?

So I am having some serious issues with this build. When I loaded it up, it only brought over 99 of 504 messages. I loaded the messages from the backup, and now I have messages that are duplicated numerous times and can't be deleted. Yes, I've pulled my battery, and yes, I've tried loading the messages from the backup i created before the upgrade AND the backup created by the loader itself.

When I attempt to delete the messages it asks if I want to delete on mailbox and handheld or handheld. Both options yield the same result.

That being said, I love the inbox management and theme management options. Reboots are faster, but the OS itself seems a little slower to me. I'll post on battery life and signal strength in a day or two.

If anyone has any answers reguarding may above issues I would LOVE to hear it! Thanks!
