You don't need a data plan for call/text. The data portion is what allows BIS/BES and internet.

Call/text doesn't use data. You can make calls and send texts without a data plan. However, since you're with Sprint, you need a BB data plan seeing that you have a BB.

Maybe you should call your carrier have have them check the PIN of the device.

That doesnt help. Do you realize how many people live there. Did the person your uncle get it from seem reputable? Or were they more shady, and just wanting to get rid of it? How much did he pay for it?

If it says activated with another company, the PIN is registered with another company.
The usual fix: contact the previous owner.
As you can do that, there is no fix.

So, you've said twice you've already registered the PIN, and then say you get a message that it is registered on another carrier.

That doesn't make the PIN fake.

First, did the uncle in China ever register the device on a carrier? If he didn't, and he doesn't know what carrier it WAS registered on, you're stuck with a nice phone.

You can look at the vendor ID (type Alt+EACE on the homescreen) to get an idea of what carrier it was branded to, for an idea of another carrier. Call them and ask them to release the PIN. Just remember, it might have been later registered on yet another carrier, which being unlocked, you don't know what carrier that might be.

These people who are faking BB pin are called BB Pin clonners. Maybe you guys should understand and careful with these people.

Well, perhaps it's not too common in Western countries such as USA or around Europe, but it's very common here in Asia especially in China. I live in Indonesia and it's common right here. Compared to Indonesia, China should have more clonners.

Here in a BB community forum in Indonesia, there is someone who offer service to clone BB Pin, and he's the MOST WANTED in our community.

So guys, don't just freely give up your PIN to strangers aight

nutrinos, if you don't know already, when a second identical PIN is registered on the RIM network, the second PIN is automatically disabled/killed by RIM. It's a safety and security things. So clone away, it mostly causes bricked devices.

Oh, so even in South East Asia, if you clone the PIN, you make the BlackBerry useless for data. </sarcasm>

Aparently the cloneing of the BB PIN may be possible but as said before, RIM disables the second instance. Interesting reading. Not sure it has any credibility.
