I don't know of an IM app yet but I haven't really looked. I would imagine that a java app would work, especially if it works on the other series 65 siemens phones.
I've had mine for about a week now. It seems pretty sturdy but compared to a 7500 or 7200 blackberry, I would not expect it to take a drop nearly as well. It does not seem flimsy or cheap, but the hard, shiny plastic seems more damage-prone than a true BB.
There is a wap browser built in, but don't expect it to be as good as the BB browser. Siemens offers a web-based configurator that will send you all the t-mobile settings you need to get up and running on the WAP browser, etc. You'll need to log in to your My T-mobile account, tell it you have a BB7100 (to make the Blackberry Internet Email option available on your homepage) and confirm to the system that you are using a new BB device. Send the service books if necessary and you should be up and running in 30 minutes or less.
That was my experience last week.
