Default Bold 9700 can open new tab?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

Im new in this forum, and i saw most of the forum post. Great post there.

Im thinking to buy a BB, im more in business use.
I got few queries about BB 9700 (Bold 2)here, perhaps you can assist me

1. Can BB 9700 open new tab when surfing internet?
Eg: i open 1 tab for hotmail, 1 tab for gmail, is it possible?

2. Can it copy content from hotmail and paste to gmail?

3. Can it serve as a modem as well? Which means make the phone as a modem and link to laptop and use laptop to connect to internet?

Im from Malaysia- I tired to ask a Telco (Masix), they said BB is using BIS (not sure the full name), so you can't use this as a modem.

4. What is the advantage and disadvantage of doing No 3?

5. Thinking to sign package, anything to beware off?

6. You were saying iphone 3GS is better in Internet, what you mean by "Internet" here?
Is it means more faster to surff net, email reply and so on?

Regards,
PhoneTalk

Tabbed browsing is available using Opera Mini 5. Using your phone as a modem can be done various ways. I use an app called "Tether". Very easy to setup and use.

Yes, it's a free download. (of course, you have to pay for a data plan!)

On your default 9700 browser, go to m.opera.com/next

That should take you to the Opera 5 Mini download site.

Tethering can be done with the included Blackberry software, Desktop Manager. You don't have to download additional software.

As stated above Tether is a 3rd party app. It's very easy to use and has a one time fee of $50. If you're interested check it out on tether.com or you can also find it in Blackberry App World.

Is there any point using Tether over RIM's DM?

The blackberry Desktop Manager works just fine with Verizon when Tethering (Storm 2 but Im guessing it would be the same with Bold 2).... It up to your carrier to charge you over the tethering feature, can be an extra charge monthly, or it can be the same data usage from your normal BB plan....

When I was in my country, Movistar did not charge me extra for tethering, but I only had around 500MB for both BB plan and Tethering...
Now in the US with Verizon I get charge over unlimited BB data plan and extra for 5GB of Tethering.

1.So means if im using Desktop Manager, then i can use the BB phone as modem and without using 3rd party s/w Tethering.
Am i right?

2. anyone have make the BB phone as modem and have any bad impact on the phone itself?
As i heard that will be bad to the phone if make it as modem, it will be more slower in processing.

Using the 9700 as a modem has no ill effects on the phone itself. Or at least I haven't seen anything like that.

If you want to tether with an ATT 9700 using DM then you first have to enable the feature as it is disabled by default for ATT phones. Here is how.

Desktop Manager does a number of things. Use it to sync the blackberry PIM data with Outlook or another supported desktop PIM app (or Yahoo); backup or restore; switch devices; install appligations; upgrade device software; and tether on supported carriers. There are also media manager and media sync options.

Its not part of your phone, its to be installed on your PC.

You can get it from here. On the drop down box click on the latest version of the desktop software, 5.0.1.
