Default SIP / VoIP on BES

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have a sip server (cisco call manager), and I have Blackberry Enterprise Server, I need to configure it on our blackberry devices, I already did some configuration on the BES (WLAN configuration –VoIP configuration and apply it to one of the devices (storm2) but it didn’t make any effects to the device to be able to place calls through that Cisco Call Manager, can anyone help.

AFAIK, there is no VoIP client for the BB yet.

He's probably configuring the Unity plugin and trying to tie that to ccm.
What version of BES you're running OP?

I don't know about your specific setup because you don't give enough information. At work we use MVS running on an older BES version than your setup. AFAIK it can't be connected directly to ccm without the unity plugin.

Voip features are not supplied by your BES, they are utilised through your PBX which in your case is the CCM. Your dialplan also sits there. What BES does is interact with your PBX via the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System or whatever RIM calls it this week.

Your handhelds need the MVS clients. There are at least 3-4 of them. For instance Vodafone Business clients use Vodafone Business One which is an MVS build you can download from RIM's site. That's for centrex deployments though. For your CCM you'll need the MVS for Cisco UCM client, which talks to your Unified Communications infrastructure which in turns can pull your CCM dialplan.

Trunking, call waiting, mobility services are all supported. You can even have a single number following you around on handheld and desktop. And terminate your calls on voip trunks over the UCM/CCM.

As the administrator of a BES server deployment you should have a RIM contact. I'd advice you contact them and ask directly for more info on the BlackBerry Mobile Voice System.

If the above implies there is no SIP peer voip client for the platform it's 100% accurate. If you're talking about the ability of the platform to interact with a voip enabled platform (through BES) it's incorrect.

Voip does exist for the blackberry platform. It's just centrally deployed through the BES infrastructure and it's not available as a peer sip client that hooks on a registrar as in most other platforms (iphones, droids,et al)
