CDMA carriers do not generally have data roaming agreements with each other as they are all not standardized. GSM carriers adhere to worldwide standards which is why a T-Mobile blackberry works the same regardless of location or country.
BTW, Sprint has the same problem as Verizon. They work fine while on the home network, but once you leave the home network, they're a really expensive basic phone...no email, no text, nothing enhanced.
