T-Mobile UK Billing Me For Home WiFi Usage; Why?
Please Login to Remove!
Hello all,
I am a new Blackberry User (8520), and I can't work out why my carrier (T Mobile UK) is charging me data usage for accessing my home wireless network using wifi?
I am going into 'Manage Connections', activating wifi, and waiting for the name of my home network to appear on the main screen. I browse the net via the T Mobile 'web 'n' walk' application, and although I appear to be connected to my wifi network, I notice that I am being charged for net usage. Could anybody please explain what I'm doing wrong? Surely I don't have to go into 'Manage Connection's and disconnect my cellular signal before I browse the net via wifi? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I've only been using a BlackBerry for two days!
I would be really grateful for any advice; thanks a lot in advance...
Kevin

While no, you shouldn't have to disconnect mobile network, I would suggest you do do that for a time, browse and check your billing and see if its coming up.
I would say, you are not browsing via wi-fi, hence being charged.
Go to Options - advanced - browser.
change top option to Hotspot browser, save and exit, and then try surfing.
Do you have the Blackberry booster on your account?

T-Mobile UK Billing Me For Home WiFi Usage; Why?
Thankyou very much indeed for your advice; I've done as you've suggested and will try browsing and see if I incur a charge, but I was wondering-I don't see an icon for a browser, just the 'web 'n' walk' browser. Is it because I am using this to browse the net that I'm being charged? I thought that I should have a browser installed on the phone that is independent of T-Mobile?
Thanks a lot again for your advice; will try browsing with the settings you suggest, and report back.
Cheers....

No, it is the main browser, but with the standard t-mobile theme, it will change the icon to web n' walk.
Do you have the blackberry booster on your account, or just unlimited internet?

Hi Midnight Draven, checked my on-line billing and nothing has been charged as yet, so I think you were right about changing the browser settings.
Thankyou very much indeed for taking the time to answer my question; I'm very grateful to you.
cheers....

Sorry, forgot to answer your question; I have the BlackBerry email booster but not the unlimited internet one; anyhow, nothing seems to have been added to my bill so I guess that fixes the problem.
Again, thanks very much for your help!

Ok, just to mention, without the unlimited internet booster (or included in your plan) no internet browsing via GPRS/3G, and no apps usage.
The email booster only includes 50MB of fair use data which is ONLY used for email. However, with the booster, it means you have a "blackberry data plan" so apps that can use wi-fi, (and require a blackberry data plan) will work over wi-fi.
