Youtube no longer working on 8330
Please Login to Remove!
I'm using a Blackberry Curve 8330 on the Sprint network. I've never had trouble playing Youtube clips before, but tonight I found I'm no longer able to play the videos. When I click on "watch video" nothing happens. I've checked my browser settings (even though they were never changed) and everything looks correct (emulation is Blackberry, etc.). I've never had a problem before, and I'm not getting any error messages to suggest what is wrong. I've tried restarting my phone and pulling the battery - no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try clearing the browser cache and make sure you're going to m.youtube.com.

Thanks for the reply. I meant to say in my original post that I've tried playing videos from both youtube.com and m.youtube.com. Until this happened, I had never even attempted using the m.youtube site. I've always just typed in "youtube.com" and played videos right off of the site. I have cleared my cache, cookies, and browsing history without luck. I have youtube pages bookmarked and I'm unable to play videos that played fine before. It's as if something is just preventing the videos from playing.

Did you upgrade the OS? add any Apps? If not try a battery pull while powered. It should reload the OS. If you did add anything, you may try removing the App and see if it clears the problem. then deside if you really need that App.

Is it still not working for you? I'm wondering if it was just the site. I tried just now and played a random video with no trouble.

Thanks for the replies. I have added new apps recently, and it's been a few weeks since I played a video on Youtube, so it's hard to say which app might be the problem app (if that is the case). I deleted my most recent app, since it was problematic anyway, but unfortunately that did not resolve the issue. I pretty much really like my other apps, so I'm really not inclined to uninstall or delete any of them just to get Youtube functionality back. I have pulled the battery with the phone powered up, leaving the battery out for 30+ seconds and that has not resolved the conflict. I've tried playing both bookmarked videos and random videos off of Youtube and each time the video fails to play. I may look into a Youtube app to see if I'm able to play videos that way. I've tried using Operamini v5 to view Youtube, but Operamini lauches the Blackberry Browser, and I only get a white screen with "start stream" or something in the upper left corner. I click on that and nothing happens.

What is your free memory after a battery pull?

After a battery pull my memory is a 19610323 bytes. I tried out the Xenozu app for Youtube from Blackberry App World, since it was free, and videos play fine through that app. I guess the problem has something to do with the default Blackberry Browser .

I don't know what the problem could be, unless suddenly it happens those links that worked before don't work now. Puzzling is that you don't get any error.
If you want to post a link, someone else can try and possibly rule out that possibility.

Well, I tried to post a link but was told that in order to post a link I must have a post count of 10 or greater. I just started using this forum so my count isn't that high. Oh well. If you navigate to m.youtube.com and you can play the first video link showing ("YouTube Play:, 0:38, posted 2 weeks ago), then you're doing more than I can. I've tried bookmarked links and random vidoes on Youtube and nothing will play for me through the Blackberry browser.
Thanks for your input, though.

Ok, that video plays for me, so it appears the problem is you, somehow.
Is it the youtube site only, or all streaming videos? Can you play other streaming videos? What about videos at http://wap.cclol.com/index.rbml?

Yes I was able to play video on that site. So that at least answers my question as to whether this was just a youtube thing or not. This is a weird selective problem. I've no idea why videos straight from youtube will not play, but youtube through a third party app or other streaming video will play.

I would clear cache, history, and cookies again, and do another battery pull. Keep the battery out for two or three minutes this time.
For what it's worth, people have found sometimes that it's the second or third battery pull that does the trick. Don't ask me ... It just happens. I'd give it a try.

I cleared everything and did a battery pull with the power on. I left it out for several minutes then put the battery back in. No change. I'll check it periodically to see if whatever this is corrects itself. Maybe there is a conflict with one of the apps I've installed recently, though it seems odd that only youtube directly is affected. Thanks again for the advice!

Good luck. Hope you figure it out.
I doubt it's a conflict with an application, but I don't really know. My guess is some change at http://m.youtube.com that is a problem for your browser version. But that's just a SWAG as well.

My guess is that you have Opera Mini 5 installed on your device. Opera Mini 5 installed on my Curve would not allow me to play YouTube videos through the BlackBerry browser for some reason. If you have a Curve, the only way Around this is to use Opera Mini 4.2

Thanks cdf3, I will definitely look into that. I did have Opera Mini 4.2 but recently upgraded to 5. I think maybe 4.2 disappeared or something. I don't use Opera that much, so I've no problem going back to 4.2. I'll check that out.

That was it! Thanks cdf3. Opera Mini 5 was the culprit. I switched back to version 4.2 and it solved the problem.
