I'm able to install Puppy linux to the SD card while it's in the Bold but the PC Bios doesn't recognized the SD card as a bootable device when it's in the Bold. I can move the card to a a cheap reader and it boots fine.

What is required to make the mass storage bootable while in the BB?

As far as I know, you cannot do this. Mass storage mode requires an OS to already be running on the computer, resulting in the inability to boot from the BB whilst connected via USB.

It's impossible. Your computer needs to be running for it to load the proper drivers to detect you BB as a mass storage.

The mainboard has to have the bios/rom that supports bootable removeable media, the BB doesn't.
