One of the old Mobitex models would go completely dead if you interrupted the OS wipe/load process. Does anyone remember this, and if so does it still happen to the newer devices.

In addition we have a security requirement to permanently disable old devices so that no one can restart the unit and use it for any means. Yes a hammer would work, just not as elegant.

I've had the load process terminate irregularly and it did leave the device in an un-bootable state. I was, however, able to resurrect the device by restarting the loading process and allowing it to finish normally.

A hammer may be the most entertain... I mean ... most effective way of permanently disabling the device.

You can always just take the SIM chip out.
