Default UMA Failure

Please Login to Remove!

Recently upgraded our two BBs from BB8900 to BB9780. Lost Orange UMA link as new BB not locked to Orange. No solution unless I pay upgrade fee to Orange for two new phones as we spend only £50+ each per month on our contracts. Have been told no way to load UMA software. Any ideas?

You need a branded Orange device to use UMA, as they are the only network in the UK to use UMA, all unbranded handsets don't come with UMA.

Damn that sucks...seems the carriers find more ways each day to screw their customers.

The carrier's didn't screw him. This is the way UMA has been since it first came out.

That being said, UMA can be enabled with a bit of work if one is willing to spend a little time with it.

It can be done with TMobile so I'm sure it can be done with Orange. A search of the internet would likely help.

The post below shows how to add UMA. It's geared toward TMobile but if you can find the settings and the certificates for Orange you should be able to do it for Orange.

Search is your friend.

Here's a post (from today, actually) with the Orange settings:

John,

I also added a link to the certificate needed to install UMA on my formerly unlocked ATT 9700's for use with T-Mobile in that post. Got so carried away that I moved to the old 9000 to find that it must not have the hardware for UMA as there was no option in the Engineering Menus

Correct. You can't enable UMA on 9000.

Links to the TMobile certificates are in my post, as well.
