I have searched the boards and can't seem to find an answer to this but I aplogise if I have missed it . How can I set my 8700 to not collect email during out of office hours?
Thanks for that but I need the phone at night just don't want to be woken up at by someone offering me cheap xxxxxx, stock tips and a cheap mortgage! I know my colleagues older Blackberry 7100t could do this but he can't remember how.
There isn't a way to disable the delivery of emails while leaving the phone turned on. What you can do, however, is setup the "Phone Only" profile so that emails do not ring, vibrate or otherwise notify you of their arrival.
Thanks for the reply, I was convinced the 7100t had a time function on the push email but maybe my memory fails as I get older. I will just have to remember to change the profile to phone only before I sleep (difficult when my memory is failing!)
Try checking google for a third party solution, maybe Notifire will do what you need. I don't use the program but I saw a review, it modifies how you are alerted to messages. Not sure if you can do time scheduled changes. There are probably a couple others around too.
What I do is to set message to no tone or vibrate when out of the case. Everynight I take it out of the case to charge anyway. It's a compromise so I don't have to change profiles all the time.
Here is an opportunity for the development of a simple new application. Something that will allow a user to assign specific profiles to a timed schedule. So, for example, from 7am to 5pm I can run with the "Normal", from 5pm to 10pm the "Phone Only" profile is active and from 10pm to 7am the "Quiet" profile automatically activates.
I had used a program, PocketZenPhone, with my MDAII and it allowed you to change profiles based on a time schedule. It also would change the profile based on your calendar schedule, so if you had a 1 hour meeting scheduled, it would switch your profile during that hour, then switch back.
Just offering up my belated dittos as to the desirability of a program/utility like this. (On my old Treo, I used a program called Central which provided a highly configurable Do-Not-Disturb function.)
While it would be nice to tie into events, I'd settle being able to schedule profile changes manually. It would also be nice to be able to easily shift to a Quiet profile for a given period of time and have it go back to Normal after that without having to remember to do so. Can't count the times I've discovered my phone was on Quiet/DND long after an event was over.
