I just got a new bold 9700 as my old one stopped working. Managed to backup everything a few months before but now when I connect the new device to the computer it doesn't recognise the new device :S do I need to reinstall the software or something? Thanks in advance

You need Desktop Manager installed on the computer. Then you can restore the backup you made.

Do you have the latest version of Desktop Manager? Go to Cell Phones, Smartphones & Mobile Phones from BlackBerry.com and get the latest version.
