I am having trouble with the gps in google maps. I get the message:
your current location is temporarily unavailable. waiting for gps.

It has been unavailable forEVER!

bb maps works fine, gps is completely enabled. Whats up with Google maps?

I doesn't show an estimated position at all. It seems to open at a random location (Greenland!)

I just upgraded to v4.5.3 still no gps.

It has worked fine prior to changes with the OS. 488>546 back to 488

Ok I just checked some other 3rd party apps. Yelp, Poynt, YP all cannot connect to the GPS. I did a search for restaurants near my location in Open Table and got results in Vancouver Canada....I'm in Hawaii!

Make sure location services are selected as ON, which it probably is if you are getting BB maps to work. Make sure that you have a current GPS position.

Go outside, with a clear view of the sky, get GPS to lock on and give you a new position. Might take 20 minutes. See if Google Maps will update. Make sure that you hit the little blue button on the lower right corner to display your current location.

If this doesn't work, delete Google Maps and reinstall. The version you have might not be compatible with the OS or it has a corrupt file or two.

Ok That worked for Google maps but not any of the other apps, including BB maps. I may down grade further if this doesn't change.

Just a note, I am running .534 on my 9800 and once I reloaded Google Maps, it works fine. Don't use BB Maps as it is blocked by AT&T on my device.

With OS6.0.0.337 I found I couldn't get it to reliably return GPS coordinates unless I turned location aiding *off*.

With location aiding on, it would always quickly return an approximate result, calculated from tower signals or however it does it, but never an accurate one from the GPS. I had a Bold side by side with it, and that was returning GPS coordinates very quickly each time when outdoors.

With location aiding off, it often quickly got an accurate position, but of course indoors when it couldn't find a satellite, it couldn't return anything.

My conclusion was that there was something wrong with the OS. I only had a loan of that phone, and couldn't try an upgrade. If 534 is still playing up then it sounds like it still isn't fixed properly.

I was using the GPS entry in Options to do my diagnostics, and was asking it to refresh the coordinates. It's a more controllable way of testing than using Google Maps, etc.
