Red face BES 4.0 computer name change

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I have used a temporary key to upgrade our BES 3.6.5.8 server to 4.0.0.110 on another physical server and now I have run into some dilemmas/questions. Would you please point me in the right direction? I have listed the dilemmas/questions below:

I still have the temporary key on and would like to move the users with their current statistics/properties over. How is this done? Can you direct me to any articles, or how-to’s on this? What about our remote users who are unable to cradle since the OTA activation seems to get stuck? How can we activate them? They are still on our 3.6 BES.

Now that the upgrade is done, my boss would like me to change the computer name of the server our BES 4.0 sits on. Will the BES, SQL, and exchange pick that up automatically? Is there any thing that I need to worry about?

Thanks,
CheChe

There are past posts that describe the process quite well and some tips & tricks. You'll need to do a search.

Thanks. This is very helpful. However, my huge issue is the server name change. I haven't had much luck finding this information for free. But i will search again. Thanks

The BES and Exchange should not be affected. I would search microsoft.com for information on SQL though.

SQL uses a SQL instance name. That instance name could be the netbios name of the server or it can be a "named instance" that you configured. When you connect to SQL you connect to the instance name. The BES (regardless of it's name) will still be pointed to the "BESMgmt" database on the SQL server or it's "named instance".
