Default Password question

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,
I've been given a new responsibility at my job. I am now the go guy for Blackberry issues. I'm still relatively new to Blackberry; I've only had my company issued phone for a year now.

Today one of my users asked me about the password that is requested when you perform an update. If I remember correctly from the last time I updated, this is a password that the user creates. Is there a way for him to change his password or retrieve it. He can't remember it and I've already checked our BES account and there is none listed that I can see. Can someone help me out with this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

There is NO password retrieval. Once the user types the password incorrectly 10 times in a row the device will wipe itself. At that point the BES admin can restore it from backup files and choose a new password.

The BES admin can also change the password - In BAS select user - Go to Device activation on the lower right of the page and choose "Specify new device password and lock device"

Andi, just a comment..I've never gotten that feature to work properly. I'm not sure if the handheld has to be power cycled after issuing the command, or if there is a delay or whatever, but It has never worked for me on 5-6 attempts over the last year or so. I've basically just told the user they were SOL, and had them restore from whatever backup they might have...I've had them enter the password within a minute or so, or wait up to an hour and it didn't work either way.

I just did it right before my post - to my own device. It has always worked for me going back to our very first BES way back when.... It used to prompt the user to accept or refuse the password but now it just locks the device and changes the password. I've never seen it fail

I've never seen it not work. It's an excellent feature of BES and one of the most widely used in my experience.

Do you enforce encryption on your handhelds? If so, how strong?
Also, what version of BES and what version OS on the handhelds?
