Hi,

were currently looking into getting blackberry's.

A big deciding factor iswhether or not the blackberry's can handle powerpoint slides.

this is with the Siemens SK65 specifically in mind.

Well, with eOffice installed on them, then yes.. you can run powerpoint slides, and edit them on the BlackBerry.. however, the blackberry can not output them onto a projector screen.

The Siemens SK65 is nothing like the blackberry, the software is different, it just uses RIMs PUSH technology for email. Nobody knows what the SK65 is capable of yet..

On my blackberry 7510, I can read them (with no graphics to speak of), fresh out of the box. They're not going to be formatted, and as of now don't have animation support, but I think that could be changing soon with the new software.

The best analogy, I've been told, that compares what you get "out of the box" with what you get with eOffice, is comparing what you get with Microsoft Notepad with Microsoft Word. I can attest to the fact that "out of the box" the 7230 version of PowerPoint reminds me of the Notepad But I have never used eOffice, so I can't speak to that quality level...

I was rather disappointed with the inability to view slides. Has anyone actually given eoffice a shot?

I can't speak to the SK65, but on actual BlackBerrys, Impatica has an enterprise solution that displays ALL that PowerPoint has to offer - graphs, charts, animations, slide transitions, hyperlinks, etc. www.impatica.com

Hello .. I have been beta testing RepliGo product and it is very nice. It seem to be a server based solution with them being the server. Not sure if that will change and I would think you will have to pay a monthly fee if its packaged that way.

Anyway .. its perfect. It sends back a perfect image of the slide. It opens all documents that I throw at it (minus Visio) and sends back a perfect image of the page. It pretty fast but does send a page at a time to not consume a lot of space.

BES 4.1 and handheld v4.1 both announced at WES and due sometime around october/november will support ppt viewing as slides without the need for additional software.

Obviously those dates are liable to slippage but it's worth bearing in mind if thats what you're looking for without having to spend a per unit price on additional software.
