I think I've had the problem for the past 6 months or so. When I open Google Maps, it finds my location and everything works fine. But after a 3-ish to 10-ish minutes the blue dot just disappears and I have to restart Google Maps for it to reappear. There was no change when I upgraded to OS6.

The location works on Blackberry Maps and bbTracker so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

Sounds like Google maps. I don't use it so can't say what it does on my device. But you have seen it on two OS versions (at least) and the other apps work the way they are supposed to (sounds like).

It has been reported that Google maps "loose focus" and the dot goes away. There are workarounds for cell phones that allow access to the code level such as android but so far nothing for the BB.
