OS: 9800 6.0.0.3049/6.0.0.706 (Asian + English)
Please Login to Remove!
BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.3049 (Asia + English)
Will install to any carrier's 9800 model by following the instructions below.
Package Version: 6.0.0.3049
Consisting of:
Applications: 6.0.0.706
Software Platform: 6.6.0.246
File name: 9800jAsia_PBr6.0.0_rel3049_PL6.6.0.246_A6.0.0.706_ Vodafone_New_Zealand.exe
File size: 164.49MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
Download the OS file here: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...46F1C8DAECEE3B
Select the second one down the list.
Instructions for installing on the 9800:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process may take up to 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

Re: Official OS 6.0.0.706 BlackBerry Torch 9800 - Vodafone New Zealand
Wow, first post announcing this comes 2 full days after announcement at Crackberry.com, and now 2 days later its not even stickied as the latest official release, and there's one reply - vs. 9 pages & 127 posts "over there."
I've been a BBF guy for years now, but it seems more and more that activity here is dwindling and I have to go to Crackberry for timely info.

no one said it was ALL LANGUAGES.
Depending on your own language needs, this may or may not fit your needs.

Re: Official OS 6.0.0.706 BlackBerry Torch 9800 - Vodafone New Zealand
Thank you Dallas, for being Mr. Obvious.
It seems (I don't know why) I'm the only one around who actively stickies OS threads. I've had some real life busy-ness this week, and I'm sorry it might have gotten in your way.
Otherwise, I'd say BBF here posts new OS threads within minutes of and sometimes before CB and other sites. I know I try to stay on top of them, and this week I intentionally have not.

Re: Latest OS: 9800 7.0.0.3049/7.0.0.706 (Asian + English)
Downloaded yesterday. Skipped the last update or two (not like me) and am still on .600 which I believe is the most recent OS for both Rogers and Bell.
Got myself a $199 Playbook last week which has been distracting me. Must say great integreation with my 9800 mail, calendar etc. and great web browsing when you have wifi. Still stuff to learn on the PB, so may not do the upgrade to .706 immediately.

JSanders, sorry you took this personally, it sure wasn't meant that way! I appreciate all that you do. The fact, as you say, that you seem to be the only one who actively stickies these threads, is indicative of the problem. More importantly, and this SURE isn't a "mod issue", but the whole activity level here seems to have ground almost to a halt, comparatively.
I've always liked it better here, which is one reason I made the post - I hate seeing this happen, and I sure don't have any idea why the traffic has slowed so much. But at the moment, the Torch .706 OS thread over there has 138 posts, vs. 7 here (counting this one I'm typing.) That's an astounding 20-1 difference! Again, that's not a mod issue at all, but simply a lack of traffic/posting here of late. So I find myself reluctantly, going over there to get the latest "scoop" on new OS releases, etc.

I loaded this operating system and now there is no ability to send PIN messages. The option under "Compose Other" Does not have PIN? Any ideas?

JSanders needs some vacation :)
The topic subject says "Latest OS: 9800 7.0.0.3049/7.0.0.706 (Asian + English)", but we're obviously talking about an OS6 release.

Finally getting around to installing. (Still distracted by PlayBook however. No regrets whatsoever with Playbook. Cannot understand all the poor press it has been getting)
This is my first install with Windows 7. Somewhat confused by the special instructions above for Vista/Windows 7.
First of all as I suspected there was no Research in Motion directory in Program Files/Common Files in Windows 7. I simply went into Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research in Motion/Apploader and deleted the vendor.xml file. Did not understand what "simply click on "Compatibility" files" means either.
In other words I found the proceedure identical as for Windows XP except go to Program Files (x86) where all the files which are not Windows 7 specific are located.
Has anyone who has installed with Windows 7 actually followed the above instructions successfully, as opposed to simply going to the Program Files (x86) directory instead of Program Files which has very few files and they are designed for Windows 7 only?
I any event while writing this the new OS has been installed, and now the lengthy process to get reactivated to the BES over the air. Wait, it is fully activated!! Never happened this fast before!! Don't know if it is windows 7 or this OS.
My third party theme did not install however, and the icons are all over the place. However I am connected to the BES server, which is the main thing, and in record time.
Apps backed up with BBSAK, so missing apps (many of which are not supposed to work with OS6) and rearranging icons back is not an issue.
I will do a hard reset and see what happens.

It is correct to use the "Program Files (x86)" folder. The AppLoader files are not 64-bit and are 32-bit, all 32-bit applications (known as x86) are correctly located in the Program Files (x86) folder.
Cheers,

Users for BlackBerries that I manage have reported the same thing. I tried playing with one of the them and was unable to identify where the "PIN" messaging option is as well.

Did you locate and delete ALL of the Vendor.XML files (there may be two).

not sure whether it is due to this release.
After upgrade, the internet tethering via desktop manager is no longer working. Any one has this problem?

I've had no problems with any of the users I manage reported, and some a heavily reliant on tethering.
When I get my hands on one of their 9800's I will test to be sure though.
EDIT (17:46 20/12/2011)
I tested the 9800 tethering to Rogers Wireless. It was unsuccessful using the default settings. However, when I created a new network "Rogers (test)" and it required a Windows User Account authorization to continue. After accepting it worked.
It seemingly was an issue with the Desktop Manager and not the operating system. I recommending contacting your carrier and ensuring you have the correct Username, Password and APN name (for example, the default Rogers info had the APN as isp.apn but Rogers is "internet.com"
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
--Phil

Re: Latest OS: 9800 6.0.0.3049/6.0.0.706 (Asian + English)
Thanks Medic48. Your reply is very much appreciated.
It is not about the APN setting as I had been using tethering in the past.
Now I can't even launch the Modem setting on Desktop Manager. Since it is not a phone firmware issue, I'll try reinstalling the desktop manager. Thanks again.

Hope this helps,
The APN for Singtel is (as best as I can tell):
APN = internet
Username = 65IDEAS
password = ideas
