I'm finding the failover functionality of BES 5 HA frustrating. The frustration is centred around the need to turn on automatic failover after an auto failover has occurred.

Does anybody know of a utility (BES resource kit or otherwise) I could use to both determine and configure failover status? I'd like to script something and run it as a daily scheduled task.

You could use pstools "psservice" to determine where your service is running:

psservice \\server1 query "blackberry mailstore service"
psservice \\server2 query "blackberry mailstore service"

The STATE will either return RUNNING on the active node or STOPPED on the Standy node.

I'm a bit old school and still use batch scripts with a combination of pstools, findstr and FOR /F commands.

MisterGriffiths... thanks. I'm with you on batch and that's a great idea.

The only issue is that it'll require some logic tracking to note whether a failover has occurred - but that isn't impossible. A flag file that's checked and overwritten as appropriate for each bes pair in a neutral location would do the job.

besuseradminclient.exe also looks pretty useful (now I finally managed to find the download link on the blackberry.com site... there isn't one under 5.0.3 resource kit - you have to opt for the previous version) with its -list -ha_status and -set_server_failover_mode / -set_connection_failover_mode options
