Default DOC/XLS attachments suddenly working on the 7100t

I am shocked!

Today some emails started coming to my blackberry 7100t with attachments and they open!! I was exstatic, as someone here previously told me it only works if you're using the Blackberry Enterprise Server.

So, could someone please tell me why they suddenly work?

We have Exchange here at work, and I'm using Outlook for my mail client, and the blackberry desktop redirector.

However, I also noticed in my system tray that the mail connector is loaded as well, is this different then the redirector? Does this allow attachments, while the redirector does not?

Yes, BES 4.0
Could you elaborate on that reply? Are you saying that my company DOES have BES, and they just upgraded it to 4.0?

All this would have to be done behind the scenes, and I just don't get how they could get away with that. I didn't say I can open jpeg files, i just meant to say that i can now open the xls and doc files when before I could not.

Mail Connector uses BWC, redirector does not. BWC support attachments.

Makes perfect sense!

The mail connector is taking a little longer then the desktop redirector to send mail to the phone. The FAQ I read on it says "every 15 minutes", but to me it seems like it's going a little faster then that, like maybe every 2-5 minutes.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to using one over the other other then the refreash time, and the attachments?

Will replies show the same? When I reply from a redirector email, it shows me as emailing from my normal mail address, is it the same with the connector?

I think it's because your carrier upgraded to BWC 4.0 ... Which means attachments are now supported for certain formats.

You still need BES to be able to open image attachments, though.
