Forgive me if a post of this manner has already been presented, but I was curious as to what the differences between the 8700 and the 7290 are. I ask because I am wondering should I wait for the 13-15th April release for the T-Mobile 8700 or just sign up right now and get a 7290?

if you are going to wait, then think about comparisons between the 8700c and the 8700b (t-mobile) in the meantime.

I just a got a 8700c unlocked that I'm going to use with my t-mobile sim. I was going to wait for he 8700b, but I prefered to pay for the 8700c cheap and unlocked so I can always have that flexibility. If anything the 8700b will be high in price thru out the summer and t-mobile's BB have always been a difficult to unlock and that is not good for resale.

right now I have to get rid of my tmobile 7290 and its gonna be tough since its impossibble to unlock that phone and I can only sell to others who have the t-mo sim card.

How much must one pay for an unlocked 8700c? And out of curiousity, why would I want to unlock a T-mobile BlackBerry unit if I'm going to be using it with a T-mobile plan?



How much would it take for you to part with your 7290, out of sheer curiousity?

Did you call tmobile CC to unlock it?????

It's a no contest to get the 8700;
I purchased the 7290 but returned it within 1 day. Sampled out the 8700C and it's just so much better.

Combined with the fast EDGE browsing, the auto-detecting back light, the faster intel chip, better screen (higher resolution and you can see all colors in a image)..

It's just better to go with the 8700 imho. But if your just going to use the device for SSH then get a 7290...

hm, well, I want the phone for e-mail, IM and text messaging....would EDGE browsing a faster processor, etc. make all of those things faster and more convenient for me, or eat least enough to justify waiting a few weeks for the 8700?

There are some vast improvements to the screen resolution. Internet browser (both speed and compatability). Dedicated send and end buttons. Speaker phone better bluetooth. Much better voice quality and smaller device. The only downside is the keyboard which I think is a little cramped compared to the 72xx series. Also in the future please do perform a quick search as this was discussed quite heavily from nov to jan

I had no problem. I had TM for 2 years. When the contract expired, I switched to Cingular for better coverage. I called TM and they sent me the unlock code for my TM-locked 7290. No problems.

No contest about 8700 > 7290. Major difference in screen resolution very important for me given my reading vision is a bit marginal.
