Here what I did, from a clean system w/o BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

1. Perform a clean uninstall via BB KB KB-02206.

2. Install BlackBerry Desktop Software v3.6 [SP3](Click on download link at the bottom of the page)

3. Perform a FULL device BACKUP!

4. Download and install the BlackBerry OS 6230_6280-v3.7.1.41_P1.6.1.41 (6230 Handheld Software Bundle 3.7.1.41)

5. Perform a FULL device BACKUP!, name it something different.

6. Download the AT&T BlackBerry OS 4.0

7. Erase the vendor.xml file, or rename.

8. Install the AT&T 4.0.

9. Install Berry 411! (Mad props. to Phil Bogle, I love it!!)

Please note, this worked for me, might not work for you.

If you get an error msg. or something post it.

I don't believe you can upgrade to Blackberry OS 4.0 (device) w/ Desktop 4.0 (PC) installed. Please read my directions as posted, and follow them, let me know how it works.

507 means No Operating system on the phone.

That tells me you are not finished with the upgrade.

You must have unplugged the phone before it finished.

Plug the phone back in and rerun the upgrade.

You are going to have to try the load again. If you are using a USB hub, try and connect the BB directly to your PC or laptop.

Start Application Loader and see if it will try and load again; if not, you must get a copy of javaloader, type

javaloader -usb wipe from a DOS command prompt

to wipe out everything on the BB; then restart Desktop Manager.

You may have to delete Vendor.XML

<this is at least the 10th time I've typed this today> :)

I receive a 507 error, on the step that says "reconnecting to JVM" and at the end of the process, app loader aborts and says "unable to reconnect to the handheld during a multi-stage load operation"

any ideas?
