Hi Guys,

I use a hopper number (where I call, and get a dialtone - then dial again) for long distance... I used Motorola phones prior to my 7250, and I could easily call my access number, go into the menu, find a contact, and press SEND again and have it dial the number for me... This worked out easy for long distance.

I noticed that I can't "dial" another number while in a call. Any suggestions as to how this can work? Copy/paste? I've tried to come up with something using the Smart Dial option and put in my calling card access no. as the company number, but then i still have to dial "x NUMBER" and can't use my addy book.

Any suggestions?

If your carrier offers 3 way or conference calling, you should be able to make a new call while on an existing call. Just put the call on hold, click wheel, scroll to new call and dial new nbr and join. Works fine for me when doing VCO calls thru ip-relay.

I don't think that's what he's asking.

He dials an access number and gets a new dial tone from the LD carrier. From here he triggers a new call using DMTF tones against the new long tone.

By creating a conference call/3-way call, you are defeating the purpose of avoiding long distance tolls on your mobile.

I have this same problem. It doesn't seem as though there is a work around with the blackberry. I have gotten in the habit of just programming a second phone number with the carrier number in front of the long distance number.

ie: phone number is 212-555-5555 and your long distance carrier number is 416-222-2222, I enter the regular 212-555-5555 in the Main phone slot and then insert 416-222-2222pp212-555-5555 in the other slot. When I dial out, I would choose other rather than Main.

I hope that makes sense. Sorry there's not an easier way.

Sorry for being dense, but aren't long distance calls included in your plans for free? I'm on t-mobile, so when I call LD, I don't even notice the difference because I don't get charged for LD calls. I made an assumption based on that. Does Rogers nick you for calling LD? If that's the case, I'm going to have to make sure I'm not roaming on their network when I'm in the downtown Detroit area near the Belle Isle bridge.

I think there is a way here. Check out the Smart Dialing Options. Please look in the manual which I don't have access to right now, but that may be your solution.

Hi Guys,

I am with Telus (up in Canada) - LD is not on my plan. I pay $14 / month for unlimited long distance with another provider and they just offer a hopper number.

Shane - thanks for that tip. I think I'm going to do that. Taking Stinsonddog's suggestion into consideration, I think I should be able to just insert a secondary number as "x416-555-5555" and it will dial the number in my Smart Dial menu. I'll let you guys know how this works.
