Default error 692, 8700g as modem

Please Login to Remove!

I am getting this error 692 whenever I try to connect to my blackberry as a modem through my USB cable...

Please only post if you have actual solutions not, I have done searches to and read the other threads and none of them provide an actual fix.

I am getting the same error message on my new 8700g. Anyone have any ideas?

2 things:

1) Clear out the initialization string. Mine (8700g, T-Mobile) choked when I put in the string that was provided in the FAQ, but worked fine with it blank.

2) Make sure the Blackberry Device Manager is running in the background. Without it, the virtual serial port that the dialup device uses can't see the Blackberry.

I did two things and the error went away.
1. use blank user name / passwd instead of T-Mobile login info.
2. Uncheck the place where it lets you choose either to display the log messages or not.

I had this same problem today.
After speaking with TMO to find out that I had the right services on my account and there was no magic Tethering plan like cingular, I uninstalled everything.
Rebooted.
Follwed the usual directions I found in the forums, but I did like CAGirl and left the username and password blank.
I used the initialization string, +cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"
Everything is now working.

I also had success after removing the init string. Speeds from dslreports for my connection were 8-10k/s down, 4-5k/s up.

Default Clearing init string's iffy...

I had mixed results about going without an init string ... it worked for a while, then started coughing up 692 and TCP/IP errors on connect.

I finally (like so many others on this thread) put in:

+cgdcont=,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

And it works like a charm. Depending on where in town (Atlanta) I am, and which laptop I use, I'm getting between 110 and 150 kbps down and 13 and 20 kbps up.

Too sweet.

What plan do you have, and did they indicate that you would incurr charges? I have the 19.99 "unlimited" plan (in addition to a 2000 min family plan), and if I understand correctly I can use my 8700g as a dial-up modem without any fees beyond the minutes used, but to use it tethered for data could incur charges. Is this correct? Or do they just let it slide if you don't go way overboard?

I just did a complete reconfiguration and I am still getting the same errors. I might have to break down and call T-Mo but I don't want to raise any flags. Your thoughts are most appreciated!

You can check with them but I have a similiar plan (family + unlimited BB plan) I use the BB as a modem all the time and they charge me nothing extra. I had previously called and they told me their was no additional charge. I would call to make sure as at times they do change what they charge for but I'm pretty sure it's included.
