What is the best carrier to run a BB with?

I have a nextel phone now, and am in the fire service on a overhead team that travels around to the larger fires, but looking for the best service possible.

With the At&t and cingular doing the merger, would they be the best?
I have Nextel phone service now, but want to get the best service possible.

Are you happy with the service now? if so, things will only get better with a BB.

From a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT, and an indirect cellular sales person. I'd personally stick with the Nextel. First off, they don't really require an MDS to run to full potential, you're currently using nextel so you're familiar with the coverage. With Cingular and AT&T merging right now, things will get shakey in the next few months as the tansition and the final aquisition takes place, including their rate plans, BWC plans, etc etc.

You're better off with the nextel in my honest professional opinion my friend. Not to mention the 10% discount Nextel gives you for being in the EMS field ;)

Thanks all for the advice, Goth, your right on the 10%.

One of the things i wanted was the fuller screen for nextel, is that going to come out soon, and fuller meaning larger screen.

And i am in Washington State, but i can travel to anywhere in the USA.

When it comes to carrier choices the pros and cons with all are many hence there really is no perfect carrier or cell plan. Do you travel or roam allot? If you do GSM/GPRS (Rogers, TMo, Cingular) devices seem to be the weapon of choice because of there ability to roam and world ban coverage.

iDEN (Nextel, Telus) devices are without a doubt the best Blackberry's out there the speaker phone is a plus and PTT is very well done. Coverage is limited to North America and some parts of Canada some US state can suffer from spotty coverage.

CDMA devices (Bell, Verizon) give you excellent North America coverage but lack 2MB of memory compared to other Blackberry's and tend to be considerably slower the other Blackberry devices.

I don't think you can roam many places with Cingular. T-mobile has much better coverage worldwide.

yes I can travel alot in a given month i could be gone 14 days, like with whats going on in FL, our team could get called to go down for that.

I have a i730 now on nextel, but it sounds like nextel might be the way to go, but does anyone know when the larger screen will come out, or the back lit keys.

Nextel is due for something new in there Blackberry line but seeing how devices for iDEN networks are more less "carrier specific" it's hard to gauge based on the roll out of Blackberry's on other networks.
